Chapter 4
I hear my phone ringing so I pick it up. I see that the Caller ID is Mrs. Smith. I pick up the phone and put it to my ear.
"Yes?" I ask groggily.
"Oh I'm sorry sweetheart. Did I wake you up?" She questions concerned. Yes.
"No your fine." I mumble, holding my phone with my shoulder and rub my eyes.
"Is it okay if you pick up Natalie right now?" She asks, hope in her voice. No.
"Uh, I don't think I have a ride to pick her up." I respond getting up and sighing.
"I can drop her off." She suggests.
"I guess so." I reply, heading towards my bathroom.
"See you on twenty minutes." She hangs up.
Great work. So if you're wondering who's Natalie I'll tell you. She's a four year old, adorable little girl. Her family came from the United Kingdom. They moved here a few years ago because they needed help and had to come visit family. Mrs. Smith who is actually Miss. Smith is husbandless and Natalie's fatherless. I met them when I was in high school about sixteen or seventeen.
I was walking to the store and saw that the house that was rented, but it was sold. I see a middle aged woman playing with a little girl, who I assumed was her daughter inside it. I smiled at the sight before it reminded of it was like when I was a four and played with Michael instead of my parents.
Well one day, when I was walking home from school and my mom told me to go getmilk. I did what I was told, when I head towards the cashier there I saw that the woman and the little girl have difficulties with the cashier.
"Need any help?" I ask them.
"No, but thank you." She smiles.
"You sure?" I ask again.
"Yes they do." The cashier responds.
"Isn't it your job to help?" I raise an eyebrow.
"She's twenty dollars behind." He states bluntly.
"I can help." I suggest.
"No, no I couldn't ask for such a thing." The woman says quickly.
"It's fine." I smile paying both their extra twenty dollars and the milk.
"Thank you." She thanks.
"It's no problem." I laugh "Are you guys new here?" I ask. She nods her head yes.
"Well I'm Maddison, but you can call me Maddie." I introduce myself.
"I'm Anna Smith and this is my daughter Natalie." She points towards herself and then her daughter who hides behind her legs.
"Hi Natalie. I'm Maddison." I wave kindly. "Well I gotta get going. See you guys around, Mrs. Smith." I wave goodbye, running home excitedly.
That's how I met them. We hung out a lot, I helped Mrs. Smith find a job while that was going on I found myself one. Taking care of Natalie. I break out of my daydream and take a quick shower. I grab a shirt that has 'Mac & CHEESE' writing on it in orange while the rest is black. I put on light blue jean shorts adding black vans and a bracelet says '5 Seconds of Summer'. I quickly put on eyeliner and mascara, and run to get the door when I hear the door bell ring.
"Hi Miss Smith." I greet, moving to the side to let them in.
"Are your parents home?" She asks.
"No, they go to work early, but my brother and his band are." I reply.
"Well, I gotta go. See you later baby girl." She hugs Natalie and kisses her on the cheek. I wave at her when I see her leave and turn to Natalie.
