I had finally gotten my clothes all sorted in my closet when I checked the time. It was nearly twelve in the morning so I jumped in the shower and got ready for the day. I got dressed in a pair of shorts, a black tank top, a salmon colored hippy sweater wit tassels on the bottom and one long feather earring. I put on a small amount of makeup and dried my and was ready to go grocery shopping. I sat down on the couch with laptop and searched for the nearest grocery store. With the printed instructions in hand I picked up my purse and headed out the door. I remember the landlord saying that everything was within walking distance so I didn’t bother with a cab or anything like that. Once I was outside I stopped in my tracks. I was awful with directions, how did I expect to follow these. Just then someone walked out of building so I turned around to ask for help with the instructions. Sure enough it was Zayn. “Hey Zayn! I was wondering if you could point me in the direction of the nearest grocery store?”
“That’s where I’m headed too. Why don’t we just go together?”
“Alright.” Olivia will never believe what my life has become. She was my best friend that I left in California. She was, and still is, obsessed with one direction. She was actually going be moving here too in a week to go to college as well. There is no doubt that she will be ditching her apartment and moving into mine.
“Do you mind that we take my car? I don’t really want the paps following us.”
“Oh,” I said while laughing a bit, something I tend to do when I’m nervous. “Yeah, I forgot that they tend to follow you. So where is your car?”
“Actually we’re taking Lou’s because it’s more fun to drive in and people can’t see into the windows.” He said while opening the passenger door to a black Porsche and gesturing for me to get in. I slowly slipped into the seat and looked around in awe. I had always loved sports cars but had never been in one, and it was amazing. It still smelled new. Zayn started the car and we made our way to the grocery store in silence. I couldn’t stand how quiet was despite the music that he had turned on so I spoke up. “Do you have any idea how surreal day has been?”
He looked over at me and smirked. “How surreal?” He asked pretending he didn’t know already.
“Like more surreal that I can explain in real words.”
“Are you going to scream again like when you saw that ‘spider’ earlier?” He made quotation marks with his fingers when he said the word spider. I buried my face in my hands.
“Oh dear. Don’t mention that ever again please. That was so embarrassing.”
He started to laugh at me, which was completely understandable. I actually found that I was laughing at myself too. We road in silence for the next two blocks and Zayn tapped his fingers on the steering wheel in rhythm to the music. We pulled up in front of the store and started on our way to the inside of the store.
“So what do you need?” He asked me.
“The basics. More toilet paper, real food, junk food so on, so forth.” With that Zayn helped me decide on what the best European foods were and what the worst were. We got everything that I needed.
In the check out line I notice some flashes outside and looked up to see someone with a camera. I looked to where Zayn was and saw that he was turned slightly the other way pretending he didn’t know me. That was sure to prove useless when he had to drive us both home. I finished paying and tried to take as much of my stuff in hand as possible and zany took the rest. We started to make our way to the door when I heard him whisper in my ear, “Whatever he says, let me answer and just walk ahead of me and smile. We don’t want to look like we’re trying to hide something, but we also don’t want to look like a couple.”
Zayn walked a couple paces behind me and when the man with a camera started asking me a million questions I just smiled politely at him and kept walking towards Lou’s car. I heard him starting to bombard Zayn with the same questions he had asked me.
“So Zayn, is this your new girlfriend, why are you grocery shopping with her? How have you managed to keep your relationship a secret for so long?”
Zayn smiled and answer the man calmly, “We aren’t together, and she’s just a good friend that I was helping out.” He opened the door and I got in quickly, setting all the groceries on the floorboard along with the groceries he was handing me. He closed the door and got in on the other side after answering a few more questions for the man. He stated the engine quickly and I hid my face to avoid any more pictures being taken of me.
“Sorry about that. Someone always finds me no matter how hard I try for them not to.”
“Haha that’s fine. I don’t mind.” I lied. It actually scared half to death. He was so persistent and kept the camera in my face nearly the whole time.
“Well, just don’t be surprised when you see your face in some magazine with the headline ‘Friends Or Something More?’ tomorrow.”
“Seriously? That quickly?”
“Yeah the paps sell their pictures really quickly.”
“Oh well. Nothing we can do about it now.” I said nonchalantly but on the inside I could wait to call Olivia and tell her about what happened today. We pulled up in front of the apartment building and gathered the groceries to take upstairs. I let us into my flat and set them down on the kitchen counter.
“Wow. You have a lot of boxes to unpack.” He said setting down the groceries he had and looking around.
“Yeah it’s going to take me a week to finish unpacking at the least.” I said sitting down on the couch. He stayed in middle of the room looking around.
“Hey! I know what will make this all go faster! Me and the boys are a bit of a break for the month an we can help you unpack tomorrow and it will be done in no time!” He said excitedly. Oh my gosh. All of them helping me unpack! This day seriously had to be some cruel trick my mind was playing on me.
“I don’t want to bore you guys with unpacking my stuff. Plus it’s your vacation you should be out having fun!”
“Nonsense! What type of neighbors would we be if we didn’t do something nice to welcome you! We’ll be here bright and early tomorrow!” He said and left my flat without giving me another chance to object.
