Seven hours later Will woke me up and I nodded when he said he was off the catch some sleep, I saw the clock read three am so I put on my Adidas tank top and black board shorts then went to the kitchen to make coffee. At six, Eric came out from his room in a tee shirt and jogging pants, I tilted my head asking “ Planning on a run this morning sir?” He nodded answering “ I run every morning on the weekends Agent before I start my day.” I nodded saying “ Okay let me change and I'll run with you, guess this will make Will happy because he doesn't run for pleasure , I think this is my part of your routine from here on out.” Eric smiled with a nod as I went to my room to change into my running shorts that had three pockets so I placed my weapon inside the shorts, then put on my white running shirt, nikes and tied my hair back. I pinned my badge to the other inside pocket, cell phone in the last pocket and grabbed my dark sunglasses before I walked back out of my bedroom, Eric waiting by the front door. I nodded to him while he looked me over from head to toe then said “ I have to say you look very fit for this, well toned and can assume you will be able to keep up.” I snorted answering “ I'm sure I can sir, I run three miles every day even on my days off.” causing Eric to smile with a wink and opened the door so we both stepped out into the hallway. I felt his body heat as we stood in the elevator and swear I heard him inhale the scent of my hair before he stepped beside me letting me pass first when we go to the lobby.
Six in the morning is a quiet hour, I followed Eric as he jogged down the sidewalk then turned onto a path that runs along the river, keeping my senses on high alert knowing someone is still out here threatening to end his life. I watched him from the back, groaning internally seeing his nice ass moving, his back muscles flexing and tight calves while we ran, then shook those thoughts from my head getting back into the protection mode. He stopped to run in place as he cooled down, so I stopped next to him then just waited for whatever he planned next, to continue on or turn and head back to his place. Eric seemed a bit out of breath when he said “ Seems your in better shape than I am Ms. Hancock, you didn't even break a sweat.” Shaking my head no answering “ Like I said sir, I'm use to the physical workout of my job details.” He smiled and was going to say something else when I felt a presence behind me, instinctively I turned to see a dark figure standing in the tree line, then saw the flash of a weapon, without a second thought I quickly pushed Eric hard to the ground making him grunt from the force, as I pulled my weapon kneeling down low, firing back towards the shadow at the trees, then watched as the figure dropped with a thud to the ground knowing I hit my mark. I growled deep “ Stay down sir.” Eric looked shaken, he was getting his breath back while nodding to me, before I slowly made my way towards the tree line, scanning the whole area, gun aimed, my senses heighten to all the sounds around me. I used the toe of my shoe to turn the limp body over seeing a male about thirty, dark matted thinning hair still breathing but bleeding from the chest wound where I shot him. I kicked his gun away then reached in my shorts dialing Will and when he picked up I explained the situation, location, as he stated he'd call the local police and inform Greg, our boss.
I leaned down kicking the man's gun farther away then turned to Eric firmly saying “ Sir I need you to move closer, the perp is under control but I can't allow you to stay in the open.” Eric stood looking around when he made his way towards me, turning towards the street as we both heard sirens and I told him to sit on the ground at the tree by me. I calmly asked him “ Do you know this man?” as Eric was looking now at the guy bleeding on my other side and exhaled a few times cringing before answering “ No I don't know him.” I nodded to him saying “ Deep slow breaths sir, everything is under control, the local police will question him if he lives that long.” Eric raised his eyebrow when the reality of what just happened finally dawned on him, his eyes scanning my facial features and I'm sure seeing no emotion on my face at all. I saw three policemen and the paramedics coming around the corner, I placed a hand on Eric's shoulder then helped him up, holstered my weapon and grabbed my badge flipping it open as they approached guns drawn. One officer took Eric off to the side, the paramedics tended to the man I shot, another officer took out a bag and glove retrieving the gun on the ground as the last officer looked at my badge. Sargent Thomas on his name badge, asked “ Agent Hancock, mind telling me why you are in my precinct and why I have a guy probably dying in the park as we speak?” I smirked knowing he is probably right and coolly answering “ Doing my job sir, protecting Mr. Colby from an obvious threat to end his long life, as for being in your area, well shit happens because this isn't by my choice he lives at the Turnberry Towers.” Yes I have a slight attitude with men who I can tell, think because I'm a woman they are superior to me so I don't even hide my disregard to their positions. As it always goes I ruffled his feathers, one of the officers walked over as Officer Thomas ordered “ Weapon Agent now.”
