Leaping out of our hiding places behind the alleyway, I held my wooden stake and spotting my first victim's back , I drove it through his flesh and through his heart even before I had a chance to look at his face.
I saw his visage as he fell. It was a handsome and young face, typical of all vampires, the skin unblemished and creamy, intended to attract victims to their web. I shuddered as the skin peeled away, revealing a rotting skull. Who know how old this bloodsucker was.
Not bothering to hang around watching the corpse disintergrate into ashes, I scanned the vicinity and staked another two vampires, hissing as one of the vamp's blood spilled onto my arm and burnt me. Wiping it on my shirt, I panted and looked around.
Aidan was parrying attacks from a female vampire whose hair was a muddy brown colour. She snarled and bared her white fangs. She was a New-One, judging by the bright crimson of her eyes. All New-Ones had blood-red eyes, which faded to a vermillion red as they age. She won't last for long. No New-Ones, unrefined and clumsy in their footworks, stand a chance against the trained, graceful warriors.
SC officers had tipped us off that there were about ten converted vampires plus an Aged one, running the illegal buisiness of Human Slavery, transporting humans to be sold off to the Supernaturals as slaves and playthings. To us, this was a piece of cake.
i heard a grunt, and spotted Ted battling the Aged, hand-to-hand. The bloodsucker had appeared to knock his weapon down, and was delivering blows after blows to Ted's already bruised face. However, he himself did not look too good. Seems like Ted did a great job of winding him out.
Taking out my handgun, I took aim and shot a wooden bullet into his arm, not to kill, but to injure. There were only three ways to kill a vampire. A stake through the heart, decapitating and by burning it.
He yowled and whipped his head around for the source, which was me. He ran towards me as I shot another bullet into his chest, but missed the heart. I backed away, until I felt my back press up against the wall. He stepped closer and closer, his mouth stretching into a sinister grin, his inky black hair writhing like snakes around his head. My heart punped faster than it already had.
This gave Ted the distraction he needed to pick up his wooden stake.
I whipped my head to the side, gasping as the vampire's sickly sweet smell pervaded my nose. His putrid breath almost make me faint as he spoke.
"Eh, you mutts. Supernatural Council's little grunts, eh? Too bad, they are going down one day and paying the price for ostracizing us races."
Before I had a chance to ask what he meant, the stake that pierced his heart silenced him forever.
"Thanks." I told Ted, a little shaken up by what that vamp said. Looking around, I saw that Quinn had single-handedly taken down four vampires. Not I was surprised.
Aidan wiped his hand on his sleeve and glanced at me, surprised that I was functioning normally. Seriously, that guy worries too much for his own good.
"Team, a job well done!" Ted beamed at us as he called for cleanup on his cell.
"Dude, I could eat New-Ones for breakfast." Quinn drawled, examining his rapier nonchalantly, but I know he was secretly thrilled at the thought of another mission gone so well. 'Every mission could be your last' was the unspoken words that went through each of our heads at the start of each assignment.
Piling back into the truck, we proceeded to go home. I was dead tired, but the teacher at school had still cold-heartedly assgined tons of reading and essays to do. This was my last year, before I graduate and go to college, which my adoptive parents, Eleanor and Lawrence, gently tried to discourage me of.
