Chapter 4

Two men are scrubbing roughly at my legs, trying to get the dirt and grime away from my body. My hair has been trimmed and placed perfectly and my body smells delightful. We have reached the capitol. At the moment I am waiting for Cinna - my designer - to come and greet me.

"Hello, you must be Peeta!" a voice says.

I quickly sit up and am welcomed by a comforting smile. I know, I know! Why would I feel comforted by a man? There was just something about him that was different to everyone else I had met so far (other than Katniss).

"Yes I am." I reply.

"Okay, I have spoken to your friend, Katniss and she agrees that, this year, District 12 shouldn't be dressed up in a silly costume. All we need now is your approval."

I pause for a minute then answer, "Yes, this year will be different!"

"Right, don't worry, these are not real flames." Cinna explains as a match is lit and the fire is placed on the back of our outfits. There were lots of people around us, including the other victors. Most of them looked tougher than I did and I started to panic.

'DING!' a bell rang, signaling us to mount our horse and carriage, ready for the prestentation ahead of us.

After a few moments our ride jolted forwards and we were trotting out to be displayed. This was where, our sponsers could pick and chose who would be their victor. With our flames, I have a feeling we caught the most attention.

My hand reached out to grab Katniss' but she pulled away.

"Come on, they'll love it!" I whispered.

So she grabbed my hand and together we raised them to the sky.

"Aww, look at that! Two people raising their hands to say I am proud to be from District 12! Isn't that lovely!" I hear being said over the loud speaker.

Our horse elegantly halted then Professor Snow was introduced.

"Welcome, victors to the 74 annual Hunger Games. And may the odds be ever in your favour." He bellowed into the microphone.

Once the presentation was over, we trotted towards the exit feeling exausted and overwhelmed.
