September, 2015

It was raining, pouring, down on the little town of cloves. Outside of the 'Too good' bakery lay a shadowed figure. 8 year old Shadow was outside, sniffling, in the cold rain. The owner of the bakery, frustrated and worried, came out of the bakery to get some fresh air. Even though It was raining. She was troubled about her bakery, she had too many bills and she was worried she wouldn't be able to keep it open. She ran her fingers through her hair. She was a young lady with brilliant blue eyes and lucoius shoulder length blonde hair. She looked toward the back of the bakery, "is that a boy?"

Shadow's P.O.V.

I heard footsteps in the rain. I was curled up with my head down. The rain was pouring down on me and I was drenched. I peered over my knees to see a shadow of a person. "What are you doing out here?" She asked. I could tell from her voice. It was calm and soothing. I lifted my head more, I hadn't noticed how much my eyes were teared up. I had them pressed against my sleeve so it was soaking up the tears. I didn't answer, I couldn't bear to hear my sobbing voice. I hadn't noticed that she had left and came back, she put something around me. She had put a warm blanket around me. She smiled and put out her hand, she held it there for awhile. I slowly put my hand out and took hers. She lifted me up and put her arm around me and walked beside me. She led me inside a bakery and sat me in a chair. She went to the back for awhile. She came back and held out her hand with a piece of bread in it. She smiled, "this should warm you up". I slowly and hesitantly put my hand out then snatched the bread. She chuckled and left for the back room again. I ate the bread, I have to admit I was pretty hungry. I heard the door open, a man stepped inside. He grabbed the bell before it could ring then let it go gently, as so it wouldn't ring. She came out from the back room, her face turned into a disgusted look. "Cramwell" "Ms.Raods" he tipped his hat a little. "Here to see if my bakery is still 'suitable' enough to keep open?" "Just here to see if it's still operationable" he looked around. His gaze fell upon me then he turned back to 'Ms.Roads'. "Since when did you have a child?" "He's not mine" my eyes stinged. All the memeroys of my past came back to me.

~Flash Back~
I looked through the crack of my parents door. I heard them arguing and being 6 I had no idea what they were talking about. "Just sign the papers" "I'm thinking about it!" I walked in, "Mommy, daddy, why are you guys fighting?" I was an idiot, dum, stupid! "Go to your room and pack your things!" My eyes filled with water, I ran to my room. They brought me to a big building, it was an orphanage. I didn't know at the time. They went inside and began talking to a lady, then began signing paperwork. The lady came and stood beside me, they left without me. "Mom, Dad" the woman looked down at me with pity. "They- they weren't your real parents. You came here years ago becuase your parents died. They adopted you and now apparently they didn't want you anymore. My eyes stung, they were imedialty filled with tears. The kids there never liked me. They called me "fluke" or "reject", that one was more hurtful. They'd say if you hung around me your future parents would give you up. 2 years later I had enough, saw my chance, and ran away. That led me here...
~End Flashback~

"I found that poor child outside, freezing the rain" He walked over to me. "Where did you come from boy?" "Outside" I instinctively and bluntly answered. He chuckled, "where are your parents boy?" The lady interfered, "I think it's time you take your leave" she pointed to the door. He got up, not without giving me a look over. Especially my head, I assumed he was looking at my ears. He got up and left out the door. She turned back to me, "you don't have to answer to him" "I don't have any parents" she looked over at me. "Are you a runaway?" "Sort of" she walked up to the counter. "Are you from the orphanage?" I didn't want to answer because I thought she would just return me. "Yes.... please don't turn me in!" I begged her. Her hand withdrew from whatever she was reaching for, I assumed it was the telephone. "Your not a refuge, your just lost" she continued to reach for, yup, the telephone. "They hate me!" I proclaimed, I held back the urge to breakdown. "I- I, what on earth are you talking about?" "The people at the orphanage, they hate me" "I'm sure that's not true" "the kids don't hang out with me, the adults don't care.." she put the phone down. She stared at the phone, like she was thinking. "I can see that, I guess you could stay here..." "yes! I can help you with the bakery, even work for you. I don't need much, just food!" "I can't give you much becuase this isn't the most lucrative business" I walked up to her. "My name's Shadow" she looked down at me with a smile. "Nice to meet you, my name's Maria"
