A/N: I checked my reads and I already have 150??? HOLY CRAP THANK YOU! It seems a lot of you enjoy this story, and I'm glad! I hope others will find this and enjoy it too.
"And that's why we should stay here."
I rolled my eyes again. "Darius, he's not all pitchfork, tail, and flames. Trust me; Sawyer's not as bad as you think."
He groaned again, trying as hard as he could to shrink behind me.
Obviously, one of us was not too excited to meet Sawyer, but I shrugged that off. Darius is kind of antisocial; what was I expecting?
"Look, I'm just watching out for my friend."
I raised my eyebrows at him. "Really?"
Darius nodded dutifully. "Yeah; I don't want you to get hurt, that's all."
I had to stand on the tip of my toes in order to wrap my arm around his shoulders. "That's sweet, but Sawyer's not here to hurt me. Just promise me that you'll give him a chance."
"Well, it's not me you have to worry about."
We rounded the corner of our high school cafeteria. "Fine, but just keep an open mind," I gently put.
"Addison!" an enthusiastic voice called from the far end of the cafeteria.
"That's creepy," Darius whispered into my ears.
I sighed and forged on ahead, ignoring Darius. I can do this; be friends with the hottest. . .I mean, most popular kid in school. I just have to get my other friend to agree.
Piece of cake.
"It's not creepy," I shot back under my breath. "Can you not see all the girls sitting right next to him, telling him everything?"
All those girls.
I mentally scolded myself. How could I be so stupid? Sawyer's surrounded by girls 24/7. I don't have a fair shot with him.
Darius noticed the dismayed look on my face, his expression softening. "Look, I'll give the guy a fair shot. Just remember that there's no guaranteeing that he'll like me back."
I shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh well."
Darius scoffed indignantly as I ran past him and sat down right next to Sawyer, sitting on the seat he had saved for me. How could Darius think that he was mean? He was obviously the sweetest guy in the school.
"So, Addie, what are you planning on doing for your free period?"
I shrugged. "I don't know. Why?"
"We could head out to the mall."
I looked back at Darius, who was still nervously inching his way over to the table. "I mean, I guess. Darius, what do you think?"
His face turned bright red. "I, uh. . ."
The rest of the girls at the table, including a few small forced giggles from me, laughed at Darius. "Maybe we should go. It'll be fun," I urged him.
"That's great! Vampire girl and Darius are in. Just remember to talk when we get there; we don't want people thinking that you're stroking out or anything," Sawyer teased. I quickly brought my hand to my mouth, my entire face turning bright red as well. One sentence. That's all it took to make me self-conscious again. Sawyer, noticing my silence, frowned. "Ah, come on, Adds. You know I'm only teasing."
I nodded, which was pointless because Sawyer couldn't actually see me, anyways.
I could barely keep up with the names of the girls that Sawyer was introducing me to. Too many Katies and Ashleys, Lucys, some girl named Tatiana, (memersupremer), and.. well you get the point.
Darius spent most of his time at Sawyer's lunch table either glowering at Sawyer or staring at me sympathetically as if I had just lost a family member.
Why can't Darius just back off? It's like he's constantly gotta baby me.
But that day at the mall?
I'd give anything to have Darius baby me again.
