"I made a new friend Elliot!" I shouted cheerfully to my best friend.
He looked at me in a happy yet shocked way, and smiled big. "Really? Whoa that's awesome Addie!"
"I know right? His name is Darius, and he's the kid who I noticed in science. He never had someone say hi to him before, at least that's what he told me." I explained, still smiling. Suddenly I noticed a popular girl who was standing near us smirk.
"Took a freak like you that long to make another friend? No wonder people avoid you." she shouted towards us. I looked over at her and glared, yet for some reason felt hurt more than other times.
"Shut up, it takes you a second to make another friend because of how fake you are. I bet none of your so called friends even like you." Elliot shot back, turning around. She scoffed, obviously offended.
"You stupid freaks think you can act smart towards normal people like us? Get a life, mutant." the girl turned around and flipped her hair, facing her pack of friends. "Lets go girls, I don't even want to be two feet next to those two. Who knows, maybe their disabilities are contagious." she hissed, making the other girls laugh wildly.
They all walked off and Elliot clenched his fists. He sighed frustrated and turned to me. "Let's just go. We don't need to be around here." He grabbed my hand and walked off to our next class as I quickly followed, staying silent. I looked back to see if anyone was watching, and I suddenly saw Darius by some lockers, looking straight at me with a shocked yet sad look on his face. I looked back and for some reason felt like I was going to cry. Now he really knew what we had to deal with. I thought of how lucky he was, not ever being noticed. Even if he was called names, at these it wasn't as often as us.
We stopped at the door of the next class, math, and Elliot turned to me. At first his face still looked ticked off, but it suddenly changed when he saw mine. I must have had tears in my eyes, but he sighed and hugged me.
"I'm sorry we're like this, Addie.. I don't want you to keep feeling hurt." he whispered. I blushed a little and hugged back, feeling thankful he was so caring towards me.
"It's fine.. I just wish they didn't have to be so cruel." I whispered back. Other people walked by and glanced at us, but I didn't care. It felt good to be in his arms. I looked up and was surprised to see Darius by the other classroom that was near ours.
Had he followed us? And if he did, did he really care that much to want to know what was going on?
I saw that he said a somewhat hurt look on his face, but I didn't know why. I let go of Elliot and walked toward Darius.
"Where are you-"
"I'll be right back, okay? Save a spot for me in the classroom." I told him, and he nodded and walked in. Darius quickly looked away when he saw me go towards him.
"Um.. hey.. I saw you in the hall back there..did you follow us?" I asked, and he simply nodded.
"Uh.. yeah.. sorry if I scared you. Was that like.. your boyfriend you were hugging or..?" he replied a little embarrassed.
I blushed at his question. "Ha.. no. we're just really close friends." I explained quickly.
"Oh. Okay. Well.. I better.. go. See you around, Addie." he slowly waved, and awkwardly turned around to leave.
"Bye." I said back. This boy was still very confusing to me, yet I kind of understood him at the same time. I shrugged either way and went to class.
I wanted to get to know him better, but I had a feeling that would take awhile. Either way, he still was nice, just quiet and awkward.
He was even kind of cute in his own, weird way.
