I stared after Mrs Bentley with what I hope was a confused expression plastered on my face. She had walked straight past me and Keeva without giving us our results; without even looking at us. She did the same to that new girl who I forgot the name of and that gymnast Lindsey. Hmm. Keeva stared at me, confused. I shrugged my shoulders at her. Mrs Bentley stood at the front of the class and smiled a very forced looking smile. She kept glancing randomly at the classroom door. A girl called Bonnie put up her hand. Mrs Bentley nodded at her.
"Where's Lindsey's?" She asked, jerking her head towards her best friend's desk.
"Yeah, and Keeva?" Ella piped up.
"Keeva's was so strange they didn't want to embarrass her," Jordan said loudly from the back of the room. Keeva scrunched up a piece of card that was in her desk and threw it at him. He ducked and it hit Lachlan.
"Enough," Mrs Bentley said with finality. Everyone looked up, sat straight and went silent
"Let's start maths." Everyone nodded and looked attentive for the rest of the lesson. It was nearly lunch, and everybody had packed up to go play. I kept trying to catch Mrs Bentley's eye, but never succeeded. I looked at the new girl, who was reading a book, at Lindsey, who was conversing with Bonnie, and at Keeva, who was staring at Mrs Bentley, looking disappointed. The bell rang loudly, and everybody looked at Mrs Bentley, waiting to be dismissed. She took in a breath and said
"Lindsey, Sierra, Malisca, Keeva. Please stay in for a moment." I looked at Keeva, who looked at me as well, then at Sierra. Sierra was staring back at me, but turned away quickly when I smiled at her.
"Everyone else may go." The rest of the class stood up and left. The four of us who remained sat nervously. The principal arrived at the door of the classroom. He was wearing the same worried expression as Mrs Bentley.
"What's wrong?" Sierra asked.
"Is it something to do with our DNA tests?" Lindsey asked. Mr Chan raised his hand for silence.
"Girls... your DNA tests didn't turn out as expected."TO BE CONTINUED...
