Pain

Through the darkness I saw light. I opened my eyes. It was sunrise. My head was in a lap. I looked up to see Jacob's face. He looked at me with a smile.

"How long was I out?" I tried to move but, the pain was too much. Jacob shifted for me.

"About two days. You were shaking horribly."

"You caught me before I hit the ground though."

    "Always."

     "Where's Emma and Kasey?"

"Emma is laying down and Kasey went to go wet some clothes to apply to the wounds."

      "How's Emma?"

"She's awake. She was really worried about you. How are you doing though?"

"I'm in pain. I guess my wings were never meant to be ripped off."

       "You hungry?"

         "No, thank you though."

"You have to eat. Here. Have this!" He handed me a ripe star fruit. I tasted it and let the sweet juice roll down my throat.

"Thank-you. How did you know I liked star fruit?"

"While you were out you said many things."

"Jacob moved from under my head and sat next to me. Kasey came in with the cloth and handed one to Jacob. I nodded my head in gratitude to Kasey. Jacob leaned in and whispered,"I like you too. And, I'm sorry but, it will stop infection." Jacob gently put the soft cloth on my back. I winced in pain. I heard Emma's squeal of pain. Jacob kept whispering,"I'm sorry."
