You step out.
Shivering, cold, excited, filled with adrenaline.
The crowd cheers.
The speakers boom.
You hear the pregame.
Music, speeches.
The back drop opens.
You step out.
Beautiful.
Woodwinds, brass, pit, drum line coming together.
Amazing.
In step.
Watching eyes.
Hearing oohs.
Hearing ahhs.
Feeling pride.
Remember drill.
Watching field commanders.
Nearly mess up.
Almost burn with shame.
For seniors.
Last season.
Leave it all on the field.
This is it.
You step out.
Soloists.
How are they so brave?
Orchestra and Choir might have a bigger audience,
But that's cause all my friends are already here,
Performing next to me.
You feel sweaty and freezing at the same time.
It's almost over.
You turn around.
March back.
You step out.
Bus ride back.
Disappointment stains our uniforms,
And stinks up the bus,
But nonetheless,
We are family.
Thick and thin.
Maybe not by blood.
But we sure as hell are family.
We sure as hell are family.
