Awkward Turtle

"Thanks", I say to Ben as he hands me my drink. He doesn't say anything but squeezes into the gap on the bench next to me. We are sat at the back of the pub, the rest of the cast and some of their friends are filling the room up nicely and I am grateful that the 'Ben and Tom' hysteria has finally worn off. It took us nearly half an hour, from when I'd inadvertently blurted out Tom's surname, to leave the theatre, and that was despite my repeated hints of needing a stiff drink. Once people had noticed that Tom was also in my dressing room there had been a second wave of visitors all wanting selfies. I'd sat patiently waiting in my chair till we were finally able to head on over here. To be honest that extra time had allowed me to regain my composure. I'd felt like a complete idiot blurting out Tom's surname like that, he'd looked a bit awkward too, and that was definitely not the first impression I would have wanted to go for.

On finally leaving the theatre there had been a few audience members waiting for me to sign their programmes and for pictures. This was one of those feel good moments as it's always nice to meet the people who keep you in a job and give a little something back. So I'd signed their programmes, taken a few selfies and had a quick chat with a couple of them but they had got more than they'd expected as two of the hottest actors in Britain were also with me. Guess it was a good night to see the show. I'd waited patiently for the guys whilst saying my goodbyes to Wanda, Tim and Sophie. Sophie had asked me round next Sunday for tea and having not really spent much time with her and Ben in the last couple of months I had almost bitten her hand off. She had apologised for not coming for a drink but she had to be up early for a meeting (who has an early meeting on a Sunday?), and she asked me to make sure I put Ben in a taxi at the end of the night.

"Sam?" I heard my name being mentioned, shit I'd not been paying attention.

"Huh? Sorry what was that?" I apologised, my mind now fully back in the room.

"I said would you like another?" Ben asked waving his empty pint glass in front of my face.

I looked at my glass; I'd not drunk a lot of it. Tipping it to my mouth I downed the rest, "yes please" I grinned and handed him the glass.

Shaking his head he got up and headed over to the bar. I watched him go and lean up against the bar with his back turned slightly to me. Tom then appeared and went over to Ben, also leaning on the bar but turned slightly in my direction. From my vantage point I was able to have a good look at the object of my 'celeb crush'. Tom was just a little taller than Ben but both men were surprisingly muscled for being so lean. They were very relaxed in each other's company and I began to think back to earlier that evening.

I'd been completely blind-sided when Tom had shown up in my dressing room and I should really think about killing Ben for not telling me who he was bringing with him. You see despite having listened to Ben talk about how nice this guy Tom Hiddleston is for a fair few years now I'd never actually met him. Of course I'd seen him in the MCU films, being the major geek I am, and I'd even seen him on stage in Coriolanus earlier in the year, but our paths had never crossed. Apparently my enthusiasm levels about Tom had increased to the point where Ben had begun taking the piss out of me and called him my 'celeb crush'. If he'd was with Tom at any point I'd receive a text saying 'guess who I'm with?' or 'are you jealous of me?' I'd know immediately who he was on about each time, and initially I'd been very dismissive. Unfortunately in recent months I'd started playing up to it and now I was regretting it. I was sure Ben hadn't said anything to Tom but just the fact I had been 'fangirling', as they call it, was majorly embarrassing.

Once again snapping out of my trance I realised that both Ben and Tom were watching me watch them. Great, just what I needed. I smile and nod at them and watch as both push away from the bar, Ben heads off in the opposite direction and Tom begins to walk towards me with three drinks.
