The next morning I made my way downstairs to see that my grandma had made breakfast and she, dad, and Haylee had already sat down to eat. An empty plate waited in front of the only chair available. I sat down and filled my plate with the still hot foods. As soon as I started to eat Haylee began to speak to me.
"So, I'm thinking we should go to the fair again today." She informs me.
I swallow before replying, "But you were just there last night."
"Well I met these two other girls and they said they would be there all day today." She explains with a slight whine in her voice.
"Oh yeah, what are their names?"
"Ellen and Alana. They're sisters."
"Wow, I'm surprised you found someone to like you." I say giving her a wink.
"That's funny coming from Miss Asocial." She shoots back.
"Alright, I'm up for it. Just let me finish eating." I say, giving in, and turn my attention back to my meal.
"Sweet!" She cheers and finally leaves me be.
Haylee hurried upstairs to get ready and when I finished my breakfast I was surprised that she was still in the process of getting herself together. I slipped into my box crowded room and searched for something to wear. I settled on some black skinny jeans and faded black tank top with the fazes of the moon in a circle on it. With my clothes together I hopped in the shower and Haylee finally started demanding that I hurry up right as I started to blow-dry my hair. I ignored her while I finished up and had applied a bit of makeup.
When I opened my door to let her in, she flopped down on my bed muttering, "It's about time."
"Well, come on then." I say as pick up my black leather looking boots, I honestly wasn't even sure what they were made of.
"Are you not going to wear this?" She asks as she runs after me, carrying the onyx gemstone necklace that used to belong to our mother.
Haylee held it up to me causing it to dangle on its sliver chain.
I gave her a confused look asking, "Why should I?"
"You used to wear it all the time and besides I think it would look good with your outfit." She points out, which makes me give in and slip it on over my head.
Sadly dad refused to let us borrow the car, saying that he needed to go look for a job and that the walk would be good for us. Haylee and I walked out grumbling slightly about the inconvenience. Thankfully the walk wasn't that far, but I knew that we were going to hate it more and more the longer we stayed at the fair. I followed Haylee since she seemed like she knew where she was going until we reached a tented area that was selling tons of things. She rushed over to some girls peering over boxes of comic books and I rose an eyebrow as she greeted them happily. They weren't what Haylee's friends usually looked like, but I wasn't complaining on the change.
"Ashlyn, this is Ellen," Haylee introduces me to a blonde wearing a red bandana on her head and then turns to the brunette, "and Alana."
"Nice to meet you two." I say politely and I notice them exchange suspicious glances.
"She looks like one of them." Alana mutters to her sister.
"I've never seen her with them, but you can never be too careful." Ellen remarks with a nod.
"Who do I look like?" I ask, feeling puzzled.
"The vampires." They reply at the same time.
That actually made me let out a laugh, "Gee, thanks."
"Haylee, you said you guys just got here yesterday right?" Ellen asks, appearing to be taking this very seriously.
"Um, yeah." Haylee was clearly as weirded out as I was about this.
"You didn't see her with anyone strange looking, did you?" Alana questioned, deciding to jump in on the interrogation.
"Like a member of the undead." Ellen added in.
"I didn't even see her the whole time, I was with my dad and then you guys."
"Alright girls, I can promise you I'm not a monster. Otherwise how would I have been able to come out during the day?"
They both seemed satisfied with my observation of my obvious humanity. The urge to go to the bathroom and partially the desire to get away from these strange girls came over me. So I voiced my needs, well one of them.
"Do you care to just hang out with them for a bit? I really need to pee." I ask Haylee quietly, so only she could hear me.
"Okay, we can meet up like we did yesterday if you want." She suggests, clearly choosing to forget her friend's momentarily odd behavior.
"Sounds good to me. I'll see you later." I tell her before giving her a side hug and placing a kiss on the top of her head.
She shoved me away, but she had a small smile on her face, telling me that she was just playing around. I rushed off, mostly because I just wanted to be by myself after that interaction. I was surprised to find that there was an actual building for the restrooms instead of port-a-potties. I quickly took care of my needs and as I was washed my hands a group of four girls that looked like they wanted to be in The Craft strode into the bathroom with a little girl tailing them. The platinum blonde girl's pale blue eyes met my darker ones from across the room.
I put my attention back on getting the soap off of my hands and then suddenly I heard a silky voice speak over my shoulder.
"I love your necklace." The same blonde girls says as she steps over the mirror on my left, seeming to swiftly check on her pixie cut hair before stepping away from the sinks.
"Thanks." I say as I reach for some paper towels.
"This is going to sound kind of weird, but I swear I saw you here yesterday."
"Yeah, my sister wanted to come back to hang out with her friends today."
"Oh okay, that explains it. So you met Chris too, didn't you?"
I instantly recalled the tall lanky guy from the freak show tent and said, "I talked to him for a few minutes."
"He's such a friendly thing, isn't he?"
I then began to worry that this might be Chris' girlfriend and she was here to protect what was her's. "So are you two together or something?"
"Me and him?" She asked with a twinkling laugh, "Oh god no! He's like my little brother."
"Oh, okay." I simply say and I glance at the door, planning on just getting out of here soon.
"No, the reason I was asking was I remember him mentioning meeting you and how he was bummed that you couldn't hang out with all of us yesterday." She explains and that's when the four other girls walked over to us. "He said that you seemed really cool."
"I don't know how he got that from talking to me for such a short time."
"He's usually a great judge of character, so I trust that he's probably right. So, what do you say, do you want to hang out with us later?"
I thought about it for a moment, I did really want to see Chris again and these girls seemed nice enough. My social skills are just as shit as usual and it's clearly making me nervous. So, I told her, "Sure."
"Awesome! We have to go help Mackenzie's mom with some of the stalls, but we'll come find you once we're done." She tells me as she gestures to the brunette to her right, "Oh, I'm Danielle by the way."
"Ashlyn."
"Well, we will see you later Ash."
And just like that they left.

Okay so I know this chapter didn't have Chris, but I did introduce a ton of important characters in this chapter. None the less I hope it was enjoyable!
Also the blonde girl in the picture is who I see to portray Danielle.
