We made it to the end of my neighborhood after a few minutes, Nathan’s lying on the cold ground. Jake had to take a break, he sat on the ground with his legs outstretched in front of him, tired. He did crawl on the ground the whole way and his power does wear him down.
Olivia gave us all water, which was kind of weird because it came from pouring out from under her fingernails. She promised that they’re always clean because of the water flow. I believed her and I’m pretty sure Jake didn’t care, he was too thirsty.
“Where are we going to go now?” Olivia asked after she pulled me away from everyone else.
“I don’t know,” I admitted, I hadn’t thought of where we were going to go, I only wanted to get out of there. That place freaked me out. Maybe it was because bad guys could possibly show up any moment or because it was weirdly the same as my childhood home. Either way, I just wanted to find my little brother back and go home.
Sometimes I wished that we were never born with powers. I wish that we were normal, that we didn’t have to hide who we really are from our family, from our friends, well except from Olivia and Jason.
“Well, we need to find a place to go, we can't stay here and we can’t go back, other wise, we’ll just be back where we started,” She said, “We need to find Daniel and we need to figure out what’s wrong with Nathan, people don’t just spit up wisps of light.”
“I know, I know,” I said, running my hand through my hair. I glanced back at Jason and Jake who were talking quietly under the soft glow of the street lamp. “You ready?” I asked, Jake’s head snaps up and he stands.
“Yeah!” He calls back, I nod and walk over to him.

I don’t know what we are suppose to do now, Nathan would know. He was like the leader, and I’m sure everyone else would agree. He was the one that knew the most. He knows who those people are and what’s happening, well at least it seems like he knows. He knows more that we do and that’s all the counts, right? I repeated all of this in my mind, on an endless loop as I walked across the surprisingly deserted street. There weren’t any cars or people at all.
Now that I thought about it, I realized that there wasn’t anyone on any of the streets we crossed. I didn’t think Olivia noticed nor Jake or Jason. But I was sure that Nathan would have sensed it, had an uneasy feeling as I did.
I shook it off and told myself that it was probably because it’s the middle of the night. But then again, people like to stay up late and party hard.
Olivia must have noticed my “intense thinking”.
“Hey,” She whispered, nudging my shoulder, “You OK?”
“What do you think?” I deadpanned. She rolled her eyes and nodded.
“I understand,” She said, pushing away a red strand of hair from her face. The wind had picked up rather quickly. I glaced at Jason, who was behind us, jutting his foot against rocks along the sidewalk. His eyes flickered towards me and then back to his feet, the rocks rolled roughly across the pavement.
Now the wind had really started to kick at us, the trees swayed rapidly, and the sky rumbled. Mom use to say that thunder was when the Angels in heaven were sad because someone had clipped their wings. I never believed it but right now, I’d believe anything.
Jake had stopped crawling and stared at the clouds that started to gather. Lightning flashed, but no rain fell from the sky. Jason slowly peered up us, we all shared looks.
Then a huge bolt of energy struck off in the distance, where we were when we first arrived here. We all gasped and watched in awe as world around us began to shake.
“This can’t be good,” I said. A ringing sound started to fill my head, I threw my hands over my ears and collapsed to my knees, no one else around me was doing the same, it was only happening to me. I looked over at Nathan and saw his hands twitching, maybe he was experiencing the same thing.
Olivia was now in front me, yelling, but I couldn’t hear. She pulled me to my feet and started to drag me towards my school, it was so weird seeing it at night. We needed to take cover and it was the closest place.
I saw Jason and Jake lift Nathan up the steps, Jake’s powers needed a rest. I saw Olivia pull me up the steps as well, but she stopped and stared at the street. I looked at her confused then saw what was happening.
A thick, dark fog started to creep down the street, towards us.
(A/N Hey, sorry this is terrible. I wrote it really late at night, but hey look, another problem in the story! How wonderful.)
