-Saturday-

"We're gonna be late." Dean shouted behind him as he dragged Castiel through the maze of parked cars next to the usually empty field. Castiel was so used to driving past this field and wondering what service it could ever be of. Dead grass, no flowers, no park benches; bland and boring. Now? Now he could see the potential.

In the direction Dean had their laced fingers pulling him towards, a large stage could be seen. Food trucks circled the event and stalls of all kinds weaved throughout them. It was like a fair. A lady presumably walking back to her car held a bag of candy floss in one hand as she held the hand of a child with a butterfly painted across her cheek with her other. Castiel could feel Dean speed up at the sight, his excitement growing.

"It won't matter if we miss the first song, doesn't each band have a set hour?" Castiel shouted forward. Dean was determined to make it on time, and Castiel thought it was absolutely adorable. Even though he won't admit it, Dean will definitely be fan-girlling tonight-

"Oh my god." Dean suddenly stopped pulling, almost letting Cas crash into him. Castiel gave him a confused look for him to elaborate, but the awe in Dean's eyes was enough to answer the question. The first band was setting up their gear on stage, and from their position you could just make out who it was. The fan-girlling had begun.

"C'mon." Cas rested his chin on Dean's shoulder. "Tell me about your childhood music." Dean smiled and turned his head to kiss Castiel's nose.

"Well," Dean began, walking with Castiel's arm wrapped around his waist. "I listened to this band in my teens mainly. They're called Mouse Rat, but they used to be called Scarecrow Boat." He ignored Castiel's raised eyebrow at the names. "When I couldn't stand things at home I'd sneak out and either walk, or if I could, drive to the city centre. At night I'd see these guys  busking every now and then. I bought their EP's and their first album that they were selling on the street." By now the pair had pushed into the crowd and the band was about to begin. "Their music reminded me that I could still escape from whatever was at home. I didn't need to be a part of it if I didn't want to."

Castiel stared as his boyfriend, loving every possible thing about him. He was bout to tell him so too, the words were on his lips, but the singer suddenly grabbed the microphone, introducing their act and stealing Dean's attention. To be fair, they couldn't see much of the stage from their position anyway.

"Hey everybody!" The singer's voice rang around the crowd, to which he earned a loud cheer in return. "We're Mouse Rat. We've been touring the State for a while now, but its nice to come back home and perform for the people that made our tours like that possible. So let's kick this mother fucker off with one of our first songs ever written!" The singer paused for effect. "It's called The Pit."

The crowd erupted and so did Castiel's ear drums- mainly from Dean's loud whooping less than a foot away.

"Hey," Castiel shouted so Dean could hear. "Would I be able to go on your shoulders?"

Dean turned to him, a confused look quickly disappearing from his face. "If anyone's going on anyone's shoulder's it should be me, don't you think?" Dean tried to laugh to make his tone sound lighter, but Cas could tell he was a little irritated. "I mean, I like the bands."

"I guess, but I'm shorter. I can't see shit from here." He defended, raising his voice as the band began to play. Dean furrowed his eyebrows.

"How is that fair? These guys mean something to me and you want to take away my viewing because you're shorter?" Dean challenged, no laughter in his voice this time.

Castiel stepped back a bit, Dean had twisted his words. "I-I just wanted to see if I could go on your shoulders. A simple no would have been fine." His words trailed off. He folded his arms, turning away from Dean to stare at the back of people's heads, because you know. He couldn't see the stage. He knew Dean hated when he ignored him, so it wasn't a surprise when he felt his arm being grabbed by Dean almost as soon as he turned.

"Hey, I'm sorry I snapped. I just-" He sighed. "They were the only reason I had to believe that I could escape my problems... but then I met you." Castiel turned to face him.

"You've done so much more than let me hide away and bury myself in music. You deserve to be able to actually see the bands that I invited you to watch with me."

Castiel smiled, kissing Dean's cheek. "Thank you, Dean." He smirked. "You still owe me a candy floss... and maybe I'll let you get a face painting." Dean's eyes widened. "Shh, thank me later." Castiel winked, turning to jump with the music.

They ended up sharing the role of shoulder support before spending the night roaming the food stalls and of course the face painting stall (Dean got a rainbow on his cheek to be cliche). Castiel had lifted Dean for Mouse Rat (previously Scarecrow Boat) while Dean lifted Castiel for a band that Dean had said Castiel would "fall in love with and break up with me over".

He was almost right.
