The bell shrilly rang, my ears were hurting from the loud sound. My lungs felt like they were burning. I only had thirty seconds to get to my math class before Mr. Brown gave me detention. Mr. Brown was notorious for giving detention to everyone that was late for his class, and it looked like I was going to be the unlucky one today.

I was twenty seconds from getting to my class, my heart felt like it was going to explode, I was so close and yet so far. My chest was on fire from the exertion that I was giving my body. I paled when I saw Mr. Brown standing by the room giving me a triumphant look on his face. We both knew that I wasn't going to make it to his class on time.

Just as I was about to run into the room, the bell rang. Mr. Brown shut the door before I could pass into the room. Mr. Brown smirked even wider "It looks like you will be staying thirty minutes after school with me young man." Was Mr. Brown's snarky reply. I started to argue, when the speaker crackled to life as the principle began to make an announcement. Mr. Brown waited patiently to hear the announcement before he entered the room.

"Good morning ladies and gentlemen." Greeted the principle. "Today, because of all the resent absents, we will be having an early release today. I know it's early, but in five minutes I'd like it if everyone would get their things and go home. No stopping off, go strait home, and please be safe, there's a sickness going around and it would be bad if anyone here got sick." Not long after the announcement, the bell rang once more and everyone was off.

Mr. Brown looked beyond pissed with the news, he smirked "Well, Mr. Ambrose, it looks like you get a get out of jail pass for today. I'll expect you to make this detention up on Monday. Now head home, and no getting into trouble." I nodded and I sighed in relief, I was saved by the principle, but I knew that the next time I would have to make up the detention. I went to my locker and dropped all my books off.

Before I headed home I gathered at the entrance of the school and talked with some of my friends for a few minutes before we all headed our separate ways. I made plans with my friends to meet up with them the following day, once we had a plan we headed home. I lived on the other side of town and the quickest way back was to cut threw the woods in the back of the school.

As I walked threw the woods I put in my ear buds and cranked up the music, in that instant I became completely oblivious to my surroundings and I didn't care in the least. As I was walking I thought I had seen something move from the corner of my eye, but as I looked I didn't see anything. I shrugged and kept walking, it was probably just a squirrel, though I hadn't seen to many of them like I normally would have.

After a few more minutes I thought I saw something move again, and this time I took out my head ear buds and tried to focus my listening to the sounds around me. My music had been so loud that all I heard was the ringing in my ears from my loud music. I shrugged and before I could go back to listening to my music, something tackled me from behind and knocked me to the ground. My Ipod flew from my hands and landed a few feet away from me.

I jumped to my feet, I turned to look at my attacker. I thought that maybe I was being attacked by a coyote, but I calmed down once I saw that the one that had ran into me was actually one of my friends, I hadn't seen him in a few days so I was ecstatic to see that he was alright. I figured he had gotten the flu like most of the people that I knew.
