The Portals

They glow and they make strange noises. I don't understand them, but I must find one that the FBI doesn't have a hold of. I have to go through it and find out what's on the other side. Do they all go to the same place or are they all different? This is something that I need to find out.

--------

I lay on my bed as I stare at the ceiling, thinking to myself as I listen to some music and I soon sigh. I have to sneak out and find one of those portals. Though the FBI is patrolling the whole city and I'm not sure how I'm going to get to one of the portals. I shake my head as I turn my music off, sitting up and look towards the window. The night sky sure is pretty tonight and has a pinkish purple tint to it which makes the stars stand out even more. I get up off my bed, walking to the window as I look down at the street and there they are. FBI agents. They've been taking over every street, but I found out the other day that they can't take over one of the stores that has a portal in the basement and I smirk to myself. They're not going to be able to stop me and I'm going to get through one of the portals before anyone realizes that I'm missing. I turn away from the window as I walk over to my closet, opening it to grab my backpack and I start packing it with the essentials. I listen to my surroundings and I hear footsteps outside of my apartment. Damn they're patrolling the building. It looks like I'm going to have to go out the window and hope to hell they don't see me using the stairs. I grumble to myself as I finish packing my bag and I walk over to my bed, grabbing my phone. I shove it into the bag and turn off my night light as I walk down the hallway towards the living room very quietly that you probably could have heard a mouse and I stop when I hear more footsteps. I listen to them and some stop outside of my apartment door. I swallow hard as I slowly and quietly make my way to the window.

I know this is risky, but I have to do it and I stop when I get to the window. Well luckily the coast is clear and there's no one in this alley way that I can see so far. I slowly open the window, but soon a loud sound starts going off and I cover my ears. How the hell did they even bug my fucking windows? I focus as I soon hurry out the window as I hear yelling behind me and hurry down the stairs. Shit. I need to move faster and I notice the trash bin is closed, jumping over the railing of the stairs. I land on top of it, wincing a little as I get down off of it and I look around. I look up and they're still following me. I take off running down the alley way as I suck up the pain in my leg from jumping and hear someone yell "get that girl. She's escaping." I start to panic as I run, but I think 'this is exactly what I need. I need to get them off my trail with these alley ways.' I smirk to myself as I keep running, taking some twists and turns through them. I slip off into one that has a hidden entrance that not everyone can see and I take a moment to catch my breath. I lean against the wall as I hear the agents run past it and smile. That'll teach them to mess with me. I start walking down the passage as I make my way to the store that's connected to it and listen to everything around me.

I slowly approach the door to the store as I listen to see if the agents have found their way to it yet, but it sounds quiet. I pick the lock on the door, slowly opening it after unlocking it and make my way inside. I look around and smile. Perfect. It's all quiet and dark. I start walking through the store as I make my way to the back room where they keep the stuff to stock the shelves and I go through the curtain. I sneak over to some crates as I hide and I peek around them to see two agents guarding the portal. A third agent is standing by the portal with someone tied up and he says "you're going to go through and more than likely, you're not going to come back. Though if you do, you'll get a lot of money." My eyes widen as the agent throws the person into the portal and I sit behind the crates as I panic. So that's what has been happening to everyone, but why? I'm sure there are people out there that would volunteer to go through them, but instead the FBI is forcing people to go through the portals and I shake my head. I can't believe what I just saw, but there's the proof that I needed and I soon sit perfectly still when I hear foot steps coming towards the crates.

I bite my lip as I close my eyes, feeling really nervous as I hear the person get closer and someone says "it smells like someone else is here with us." Another man says "find them and then throw them through the portal. That way there's no witnesses." I shiver at the thought of them finding me and I slowly try to sneak over to another set of crates, but I feel someone grab my bag. The agent says "well, well. This is such a surprise. We have a little girl snooping around." I say "I-I was just l-leaving. My shift ended now." The agent says "that's a bunch of bullshit and you know it because the store has been closed for hours now." I swallow hard as he drags me out from behind the crates and the other agents smirk at me. I land right in front of the portal and I soon look at the men. I ask "why are you doing this?" They all laugh and the agent that found me says "we're doing this to see just where the portals go, but no one ever returns. You're going through this portal and hopefully you don't meet a horrible end." I stare at him as he gets closer to me and he grabs me by my hair. I whimper a little, but soon I scream when he throws me into the portal and land hard.

-----

Where could I be? How could they do this? Sending people through the portals without any type of protection, but then again this could be their way of getting rid of people and now I'm next probably. Whatever world I'm in, they probably think I'm going to die. I have to prove them wrong.
