"I'm home!" I shouted as I walked into my house. I shut the door and threw the keys in the small box next to it.
"Isabella!" a small voice said happily as something collided with the left side of my body. I chuckled and picked Jarno up, giving him a tight hug while twirling him around. After two twirls or so, I quickly put him down. He's growing by the second and I'm not really the strongest.
"How was your day?" I asked him while walking into the living room. He's now six years old and walks to school every morning, just like me. I always hoped mom would bring him to school, since I can't do it. Of course she never does, but he is used to walking alone now. First I was not happy with it, the first couple of days I brought him, but everyday I was too late. Jarno told me he could walk by himself, and after a while I gave in. I'm still concerned though, I will never trust these streets.
"It was okay, I learned some new things, you want to know what?" he asked, still happy while sitting down on one of the chairs in the kitchen. I nodded my head and waited for him to tell the story. He always has stories to tell and I always listen to them since mom is not here to do it.
"I learned that every object is made of veeeeery small round things," he told me proudly. I smiled and grabbed some bread to make a sandwich.
"Really?" I asked, playing along.
"Yes, very small. So small you can only see it with the best loupe!" he continued which made me chuckle slightly. "We should get one of those, I want to see the small round things"
"I will remember that," I answered laughing as I gave him the sandwich I just made. He took a bite and ate it in silence. I hate it that he has to live under these circumstances. I don't even know where mom is now, she could be home any moment. Personally, I don't want her to come home since she will only cause drama.
I walked to my little brother and gave him a kiss on his forehead. "Mi amor," I mumbled and gave him another kiss. "I'm going to the store to get me some things for dinner, alright?"
"Can I come with you?" he asked with pleading eyes. I sighed and thought about it, I would be out longer but otherwise he would be alone this whole time.
"Of course you can, go put your shoes on" I smiled. I took a bite of my sandwich and grabbed my bag and jacket.
After a couple of minutes we walked into the grocery store. It was a pretty small store in the center of the town. Everytime I come in here, I see someone I know. Probably because everyone in town goes to this store.
"So, any preferences for dinner tonight?" I asked Jarno as we walked into the first aisle.
"Pancakes!" he shouted happily. I chuckled and dragged him to where the pancakes were. I could've guessed he was going to pick pancakes, it's his favorite food.
As I walked into the next aisle, I saw Ben standing there, directly across the pancakes. I sighed at the sight of him, I hope he is not going to speak to me. Actually, he never does and I never greet him so there is no need to talk.
He was wearing a simple black jeans and a grey sweater with some nikes. Typical athlete outfit, I must say.
"Ooooh I also want this one!" Jarno said as he pointed at some cupcakes. I shook my head and chuckled slightly, feeling Ben's eyes on me.
"No, not now. Another time okay?" I answered. We don't have so much money at home so I can't buy everything he wants, sadly.
"Promise?" He asked while holding his pinky out.
"Promise." I replied as we pinky promised. I heard Ben chuckle from behind me, so I glanced swiftly at him. I still thought it was weird that he smirked at me like that this afternoon at school, I actually thought he didn't really know me.
