"I don't know Annie," Brennan gulped. "Should we really be here right now?"
"Calm down Brennan. Nobody really cares if they stayed out past curfew, what're the parents going to do? Yell at them?" I rolled my eyes, riding my skateboard towards the hangout.
My skateboard jolted a little and before I even knew it, I fell off. I almost landed flat on my face but I put my arms down to catch my fall.
"Ow," I groan as I lay still on the wooden planks. "Stupid skateboard, this thing is trash."
"Geez Annie are you okay?" Brennan came running over to me, leaning down beside me. "What happened?"
"News flash, I fell down. Keep up Brennan, is it really that hard?" He reached out to help me up but I denied it and got up on my own. "Let's keep going now."
I picked up the skateboard from the ground and sauntered down close to the large ferris wheel. "Wanna go on that thing or are you too scared like usual?" I asked Brennan who simply shook his head.
"No way Anne," He exclaimed. "I'm afraid of heights."
"Everyone is, even me. I got over it and I think you should too, you big baby," I mocked him. "Whatever, I guess I just won't go on then."
"No, I'll go on with you Annie. I was just a little afraid that's all. I'll get over it like you said," Brennan shrugged, walking next to me to get in line.
The line, which I was expecting to be long, actually wasn't. It was pretty short and it moved quickly. The worker or whatever you call it, put us in a cart with a boy and a girl about our age.
I crossed my arms. "Well this is awkward," I sighed and I could see Brennan trembling. "My name's Annie."
"I'm Alexis," The tan girl introduced herself. "but people call me Alex or Lexi. It doesn't really matter what you call me."
"You talk a lot," I chuckled. "I'll call you Alex."
"I'm John but people call me Johnny," The boy said while smiling at me. "Simple name to remember."
"I'm Brennan," Brennan's voice cracked as he looked down from the ride. "and I'm afraid of heights."
"Aren't we all?" Alex giggled. Her hair was a dark colored brown and her skin was tan. She looked like she had some sort of latin descent.
"So are you two dating?" I asked Alex and Johnny who's eyes widened.
"Us two? No way!" Alex hollered. "He's more like a brother than a boy friend."
"Can it Alex, we all know you had a crush on me in grade school," Johnny grumbled. "But we are pretty close."
Johnny had dark hair as well, almost black. He had big brown eyes and his hair was flipped up a little.
"You're insane," Alex gave Johnny a friendly hit on the arm and he laughed. "I never had a crush on you."
"Yeah, yeah, you don't like him. Do you guys want to hang out sometime or?" I asked both of them and the nodded.
"That would be awesome. Maybe after this we can go to the bonfire on the beach?" Alex suggested.
"Definitely," I tried to hide the excitement. "Can Brennan come?"
"I don't know Annie. Doesn't your da–" Brennan took a deep breath and I cut him off.
"Don't worry about him. It'll be fun," I smiled. "Live a little Brennan."
The ride was slow but as it went on, we all talked about what it's like where we're from. Alex was talking about some story of her and Johnny in fourth grade.
"He totally liked me. It was hilarious because on Valentine's Day he sent me a card," Alex smirked. "Johnny was so crushing."
"You thought I liked you because I sent you a card? Isn't that what friends do? I could've sent you nothing." Johnny defended himself and it was obvious why he did. Alex was embarrassing him in front of us but I didn't seem to mind.
"You guys seem like good friends, kinda like Brennan and I." I grinned.
"Except you're nice and Alex is not," Johnny said, resting his hand on Alex's shoulder.
"You really think Annie is nice? Boy I'll tell you, it's all fun and games until she breaks your arm." Brennan joked.
"What he said." I tried not to look bad in front of them but I think Alex liked me even more.
The ferris wheel came to a stop and with just our luck, it was the very top. It was evident on Brennan's face that he was terrified. He was shaking as the cart came to a halt.
"Annie," Brennan covered his face with his hands. "We're going to die." He exaggerated.
"Shut up. We're not going to die." I groaned, trying not to look down.
"Brennan we're going to be okay," Alex reassured him, her voice calm.
"You better not be wrong Alex." Brennan exhaled deeply and that's when he started to stop worrying.
