Dan's POV.
BEEP! BEEP! BEEP!
I absolutely despise that noise. The beeping of my alarm, waking me from my slumber. Meaning I survived the night. Which is not something I was hoping for. Sun shot into my room through the broken blinds covering the window. Sighing, I buried my head in the pillow, trying to block out the sound of the alarm, the sound of my mother making breakfast with my brother, Adrian, downstairs. I slowly stood and made my way into the bathroom, for a shower. I brushed my teeth with my eyes closed, as to not see myself in the mirror. Today was a normal day, I turned the shower on as cold as it would go and removed my clothes revealing my frail body. You could see the outline of my bones, and the scars running across my forearms and thighs. I slowly stepped into the ice cold water and stood in it, letting it freeze my body. When I was shaking with chattering teeth because of the cold water I turned it to the hottest it would go. Making my body almost as numb as I feel. I slowly washed my hair and body, stepping out and getting dressed once again into my dreaded school uniform, putting a black jacket over it. After drying my hair I looked in the mirror for the first time today, picking up the straightener and straightening out my hobbit hair. I've always hated it curly. As I finish, I look at myself in the mirror, I didn't like what I saw, but I didn't have time to fix it.
"Dan, you look great today," my mum told me as I entered the kitchen.
"Thanks, mum."
"You better head off to school, boys," I nodded and exited our home, down the front steps and onto the pavement, Adrian following. I always walk him to school. The times I have with my brother are my favorite of the day. He chatted to me on the way to school, about the drama going on between his friends and the new games coming out.
"Have a good day, Adrian." I said when we arrived at his school, hugging him, "stay out of trouble. Make good choices."
"I promise I will, and Dan?" He looked up at me, "can you promise me that you won't hurt yourself today?" I thought a moment.
"I promise," I replied smiling. I'd do anything for him, "Now go have fun with your friends before school starts."
"Okay. Bye Dan!" he shouted as he ran to his friends, waving to me. I smiled and waved back to him, turning and heading off to my school. He was the only one that could make me smile no matter what. He's the reason I'm still here.
