She wasn't smiling today.
I could feel dread in the air.
It was late morning, and she was making my coffee again as I hanged my photos to dry.
"I wanted to talk about something important Saeyoung..." She said softly. She placed the coffee on the table and took a seat next to me.
"And what do you want to talk about?" I asked her as she fiddled with her fingers.
She looked at me sadly, and I knew what she was going to do.
"What else is left to do? You finished everything. I thought... I was your happy ending?" Tears were leaking from my eyes.
She was going to leave me again.
"Saeyoung, please understand I-"
"Do you remember the day V died?" I asked her softly. I was holding the cup of coffee she made. I'm not fond of coffee, but I promised her I would lay off the junk food. Coffee was my substitute.
"How could I forget?" She said, her eyes reflecting the feeling of grief.
"V told me... if you want to know what someone holds dear, or fears losing, watch what they photograph. Look at the photos I hanged. Do you see what I fear losing?"
She looked to her right and saw photos of her. Most of them were photos of her, while a few were photos of us together.
"You're afraid of losing me?"
"Well, yes, and happiness."
She was quiet. Her hair covered her eyes and I could hear murmurs from her, hearing the occasional "I'm sorry". Was she trying to make me feel sorry for her? I don't know.
"Well... I'm sorry that you've grown tired of us." I said with a little cough.
She took out her phone with her shaky hands and showed me the pictures she took with it. They were pictures of the RFA. I smiled. I guess she's afraid of losing us too.
"You know... all we wanted-what the RFA wanted-was for you to be happy. If you want to leave, I can't stop you. But do remember, we just want your happiness."
She dropped down to her knees and started to sob hysterically. She was loud and pitiful. I couldn't do anything.
"I'll never forget you Saeyoung. I won't forget anyone else either. Zen, Yoosung, Jaehee, Jumin, Saeran... V... I promise... I'll never forget about you." She was stuttering.
"You said that last time." I said as I approached her and gave her a tight hug.
"I never did forget, did I?"
"No. I know you keep your promises." I said as I gave her a pat on the head.
"Thank you."
"Goodbye." We both said
And in a flash of light, she was gone.
And so was my happiness.
I sighed and took a seat next to the table and reached for the cup of coffee she made.
"It's bitter... No sugar... Was she planning this?"
I looked at our photos together as they started to fade.
"But I can say that bitter tastes nice right now"
