We were in the mall and loud noises overwhelmed us. The fire alarm blared loudly in our ears. Luke and I dropped our things and dashed for the door. The building was starting to collapse and wood was falling. Wood almost fell on us, but Luke pushed me out of the way. I continued to run thinking Luke was behind me. I heard someone yelling my name. It was Luke! I ran against the crowd. I saw him laying on the floor, a piece of wood sprawled across his leg. I lifted the wood off his leg and helped him up. I found someone who was willing to help us.

We made it out of the building alive, except we had ash all over our faces and trouble breathing. The firefighters helped us get clean and gave us breathing masks. The paramedics put Luke on a stretcher. I wanted to go with him, but I had to stay.

As soon as I was able to,  I drove the boy and me to the hospital. When we arrived,  we were told to stay in the waiting room.  Luke was in surgery getting his shattered bones put back in place. We waited for hours. In those hours, the boy and I decided to get to know each other. His name is obviously not the boy, but Jake. He told me that he's eighteen and really likes helping people . I told him that my name is Addison, I'm sixteen and I'm danger prone. He said that he would really like to go out for lunch while Luke was in surgery. I agreed and we were off to Burger King.

I gave the cashier money before Jake could. He helped me and Luke. I had to repay him somehow.

When we went back, the lady at the front desk told us that Luke's in room twenty six. I thanked the lady and Jake and I raced into the elevator. We both tried to push the button for the second floor, but his finger landed on top of mine. We just laughed as we went up.

We ran to room twenty six and slowly opened the door. Luke was laying there lifeless. I couldn't help but run to his side. He didn't even twitch at the sound of my feet.  I stroked his face with my finger. He didn't move at all. All of a sudden, he jumped and snatched he head towards me. Then he laughed.

"That's not funny. You almost made me fall over. I thought you were going to have a heart attack." I was heavily breathing.

"It was really funny, actually. Even your little buddy over there is chuckling. And it's my leg that's broken, not my heart." Luke smiled. Okay. It was funny, but I thought he was dead. I looked over at Jake who had a stern expression on his face. When I turned around, I heard him snorting behind me.

"Okay. What's going on?" I asked.

"It's a guy thing. You wouldn't understand," Jake said.

"I grew up in a household of six boys. I think I would understand." I was kinda mad kinda weirded out. "Never mind I don't want to know."

"Can I talk to your brother in private , please?"

"Sure,"  I said, walking out of the room.
