-          Clouse.

“Kill the weak, take the rest.” My men shouted their battle cries into the night sky. We were about to overtake the small village and then we would continue to the castle were the current King would be waiting for us. I had been planning this since the day I was turned, to overtake as many kingdoms as I could. I was going to be the person they feared, the person they all obeyed. This was my time.

I watched as my men raided the small village, sighing as I heard the wonderful sounds of battle: the screaming of women and children, the sounds of metal hitting metal as men picked up their swords to defend their loved ones and homes, the sounds of feet hitting the ground as a few survivors tried to flee to save themselves. I gave a menacing, condescending laugh as I heard the delightful sound of my soldiers’ swords slicing through their victim’s flesh, their agonised screams of pain following soon after. Eventually, the current kings’ soldiers would reach the village and join the battle, only to be cut down and slaughtered like the pigs they are. Mercy is a weakness, and my men shall show none.

I descended from the hill I was standing upon to join my men. A house to my left had its lights on and I noticed a shadow in the top window, how my men had missed these vile humans I don’t know, pathetic. I proceeded towards the house gathering some of my men along the way, this would be easy, and this would be my first kill of the night. My men stormed the house before me only to be met by a man and his boy with swords. I walked past them without notice and ascended the stairs. I could hear their hearts pumping, terrified of what was to come; their shouts were ignored as I continued upwards. I turned left at the top only to be met with a woman who was beautiful in her panic with her heart rate picking up even more speed. The scent of her life force flowing through her, just waiting to be taken. I had to hand it to this woman, she took a deep breath to steady her beating heart and stood tall, showing no fear. A smirk appeared on my face as I stepped towards her and in one swift move I held her in my hands, pulling her closer to me as I lent down slightly to take in her scent. I promptly bit into her soft, delicate skin and began to drink deeply. I didn’t drain her fully but she wouldn’t have enough left in her to survive. With my hunger sufficed I dropped the woman to the ground. As I turned to leave I caught a tiny sound, like a tiny heart rate still beating. It couldn’t be from the woman I had drunk from; her heart rate would have been faint and slow. Suddenly there was a noise from down stairs as more humans joined the fight within the house. I swore as I noticed some of the current kings soldiers were helping the young boy fight my men, his father already lay on the ground dead. I left then to continue my purpose of being in this puny village.

I woke from my sleep, remembering the dream I had from my past. Why that part of the memory had come to me whilst I slept I do not know but I couldn’t help feeling like there was something that I had missed. Something important. Getting up from my bed I dressed and decided that I would visit the house once more as I couldn’t shake the feeling of importance.

“My lord?” A woman’s voice sounded from the bed I had just left. Alirah was sitting in my bed holding the covers over her naked breasts as she looked at me with questioning eyes. “What is it you wish of me now, my lord?”

“Nothing. You may go back to your duties once I leave.” I replied, not bothering to care what she done with the rest of her day. Alirah was the only female vampire I allowed into my chambers at night. She was appointed part of my council a few years ago when I noticed that I, along with others, was no longer intimidating to her. In a way I was proud to have a woman stand up to me. She was a valuable asset to the decisions I made although I would ignore her when I wanted.

I didn’t bother looking behind me as I left my chambers and the castle. I was determined to inspect the house from my memories once more to see if I could find anything use full. There was a family living in the house now and they obediently vacated the premises when told.  I was now alone in the pathetic excuse for a house. I entered the room in which I had fed from the woman and looked closely at everything. It was bare with only a bed in the corner and a trunk for the owners’ possessions. After ten minutes or so I decided that it was useless. I wasn’t going to find anything here. There was nothing left from the past.
