Chapter 5
Terry and Abbie sat in Abbie's room, lost in the game. Terry electric blue eyes were fixed on the screen. Abbie could see that her best friend was loving it. She was glad that for once, he wasn't moaning about his older brother, Aaron. The last couple of weeks, it seemed that that was all he was doing; "Aaron tried to murder the cat" "Aaron was steeling my sweets" Aaron got in a fight with someone else, when only I'm allowed to fight him"his arguments were getting mire ludicrous by the day.
Zoë sighed. It was Monday tomorrow... School. To be precise, the first day back to school after the summer holidays... "You're thinking about school again, aren't you?" Darrik muttered next to her.
"Yes. How do you manage to know what I am thinking every single time!?"
" Well... That remains a secret, Zoë. You won't wheedle it out of me!"
"Humph! Fine!" She snapped. It was then that she saw his T-Shirt. It said "You call me hot, I call me cool." She snorted at the logo. "Who came up with that cheesy pick up line!?" Darrik looked confused for a moment, then saw her staring at his T-Shirt.
"Oh. Well basically, during the holidays, there was this slogan competition, and the runners-up would get a T-Shirt their size, with their design on it, and a T-Shirt for a friend. But I haven't decided which friend to give one to yet, so I only have the one..."
"Fair enough. Who do you think you'll have for form?"
"I dunno. Hopefully someone youngish... Maybe Miss Epitu. She's only, like, 20 or something."
Zoë giggled, "Is ickle Darrik still scared of adults then?" She cooed.
"Shut up! You don't know how scary they get for me!"
Zoë flinched at these words; never had he ever spoken to her that harshly before. "I'm so sorry, Zoë!" He cried, as he saw her face. "I didn't mean to make you jump!"
"It's... Fine, I guess..."
"So, now you're 16, are you gonna take driving lessons?" He asked, changing the subject.
Maddison walked up to the grand blue door. She hesitated, but then pressed the door bell. She could hear people walking around on the front room, and saw someone peeking through the drawn curtains. Then she heard someone call "Amy! Maddy's here!"
"Hang on, Lil', I'm coming!" Footsteps pattered down the hallway, and there was a thud, presumably clumsy Amy knocking over the umbrella stand once again. The latch clicked, and the door swung open- to reveal a thoroughly bruised Amy. Maddison gasped, "Oh my goodness, Amy! What happened to you!? You look like you were thrown into a dust bin!"
"Something like that." Amy muttered. "Anyway, come in."
"Um, Amy, please don't tell me it was HIM again!" Maddison exclaimed, quite forgetting her shyness. Immediately, half of Amy's large family had surrounded the two of them, coming from who knew where, and started firing questions at her. "Who are you talking about!?"
"Where does he live!?"
"Imma go beat him up!" They all shouted across each other. Maddy shrank back into the shadows, trying to hide from view, and desperately attempting to morph into the coat rack, but it wasn't working. Now, of all times, her shape shifting powers were failing her.
