The Darkness Within

Chapter One

'Morning Marcus.' Kat sang as she entered the kitchen.

'Hey KitKat someone's cheerful today.' He laughed. 'You've been here for almost four years now and I don't think I have ever seen you this happy.'
Kat rolled her eyes and grabbed her toast from the plate, 'I gotta go, I'm meeting Lizzy before school.' She threw her bag over her shoulder and walked out the door.

'Have fun. Oh and I'm going on a Business trip so you have to go to a summer school camp for two weeks on Monday.' He called after her not looking up from his morning newspaper.
'Got it.' She yelled as she shut the front door. And raced down the street with her bag knocking against her legs as she ran to the town centre. Her wavy, waist length black hair flapping in the wind behind her. She was so focused on getting there. Kat loved to run, it was as though she could hear almost everything and her heightened senses made everything seem magical.
She started to remember the little things that she used to love about her old life.

'Hey where are you off to in such a hurry.' She almost didn't hear her best friends voice.
'Lizzy!' Kat came to a complete halt beside her bestie, giving her a big hug.
'No... you have to explain yourself. Kat where were you last night you totally bailed on me.' Lizzy huffed in her fake tone. 'You ditched me for Jamie again didn't you?' She looked at Kat with a huge question in her hazel eyes. 'You can't lie to me remember.' She looked up and smiled taking her contacts out to show her cherry red eyes, then she put her contacts back in.

'I wasn't...' Kat smirked, 'I had to be somewhere else. My dads friend said I could tag along and see how the SSPK run things. I mean it was fun and I got an apprenticeship that Marcus doesn't know about but it's just amazing.' Kat smiled her blue ocean like eyes lighting up at the thought of it.
'God you're such a geek. You bailed on me so you could work. It was Tom's house party last night.

'Why did you even go to that Vampires can't even get drunk, anyway my brother has gotten me a place in this supernatural private school so I'm not going to be back at school after the two weeks holiday.' Kat spoke proudly as they walked into the coffee shop. 'Hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream please.' Kat said to the waitress as they got to the till.
'So you're just going to bail on me forever now.' Lizzy looked hurt and Kat went to hug her. 'Don't bother! Have fun at your new private school, were!' She spat and walked out.

'Lizzy wait!' Kat ran after her but her friend had vanished into the street. She decided to skip school, and go straight home she walked back to Marcus' house he was still there but to her surprise so was another car. She opened the door. 'Marcus?' Kat called out.
'Katarina how nice of you to stop by. We are just telling Marcus about your scholarship to our school you're brother and therapist applied you for. We thought it would be best for you to start in two weeks time as opposed to four, our car will pick you up roughly 6pm on Monday afternoon.' The mans smile was warm and comforting.

'Thank you sir.' Kat said nervously. 'Marcus is it okay if I take today off I'm not feeling too good.' Kat asked as the men left.
'Okay but I'd better get going now.' He kissed Kat's forehead and left the house. She went straight to her room and fell asleep on her bed. 'Well this has been an eventful morning.' Kat thought to herself. As she drifted carelessly into a deep sleep.

(Four years ago.)
'Agggghhhh.' Kat screamed suddenly aware of her surroundings.

'I will not regret this.' The red eyed Vampire hissed at her as he pulled the trigger and fired the gun. The wolf launched forwards and attacked the vampire but he escaped, disappearing instantly. The wolf looked at her with is beautiful gold eyes and bit her.

Everything went black. Her eyes jolted open moments later and she felt the pain in her chest growing, in tense agony she fell to the ground on her knees putting her hands across her mouth. Her jaw ached and her head pounded, her bones outstretched and dislocated. Then her jawbone developed into a vicious fanged mouth, her face started to transform. Her fingers ached and her nails room at an alarming rate into claws that were razor sharp. She let out an ear bursting howl as her spine arched forcing her onto all fours.

Then as a newly formed wolf she ran into the forest with what little strength she had left. Her fur a beautiful angel white, with dirty grey in her fur coat that formed a butterfly type symbol on the wolfs forehead.

(Present day)
'Agggggghhhhh!' Kat woke up screaming in breathless panic. It was 9:45am shes been a sleep for almost an hour. 'Just a dream.' She said out loud, 'It was just a dream. Just go back to sleep.' And after about fifteen minutes she eventually managed to dose off into yet another dream.

She was in a forrest, it was both beautiful and creepy all in one there was a whole lot of mist, 'Where am I?' She spoke to herself. 
'Who are you?' A voice echoed from the now evaporating mist.
'Are you a ghost?' Kat asked, the voice that suddenly came from out the mist.
'God I hope not cause this would be a really depressing dream if so.' Then a boy appeared.

'Who are you?' Kat asked.
'I do believe I just asked you that.' He smirked with boyish charm. Kat's mouth dropped open no one she had ever seen was this gorgeous. The boy continued to smile as if reading her thoughts, 'I'm Ethan Porter.'

'Kat...Um...Katarina-Rose Chamberlain.' She returned the smile.
'As in the mayors daughter? Chamberlain?' Ethan asked.
'Ex-Mayor.' Kat corrected.
'So what brings you into my dreams sweetheart.' Ethan smiled with humour.
'Well I didn't. I was here first! You're the one invading my dreams here.' Kat laughed.
'Don't be silly I can't dream scape. This is all you.' He stepped closer. 'How old are you anyway?'
'That's confidential actually and I don't know you so stop talking to me.' Kat stepped back.

'Awe I'm making you nervous Katarina.' He smiled stepping closer again.
'N... No I ... I just simply don't know you.' She stepped back tripping over a stick and falling back over, but before she reached the ground he grabbed her elbow and steadied her. 'Thanks.' She retorted angrily. 'What's your problem anyway?'

'My problem?' He let go of her elbow, 'Why do you assume that I have a problem?' He smirked. 'My guess is that you have to be some relation of a witch to be able to dream scape, but you smell like a wolf so how can you dream scape?' He questioned.

'I've told you this isn't me, I'm not doing this.' She waved her hand around in exaggeration. 'And if you must know I was a witch before I was bitten so sure gloat. That's what most were's are like anyway.' She huffed. Then looked up the sky was a beautiful purple blue like something out of a movie, the stars glistened and shone, it was truly magnificent.

Ethan stood next to her, 'Pretty isn't it? I've only ever been in one other dream scape but this one is by far the greatest.' He looked down into Kat's eyes, 'I'm seventeen Katarina, now do you want to tell me how old you are or how you became a were?'
'Fine...' She huffed heavily, 'I'm sixteen, I became a were four years ago because I was bitten on the night of a full moon and that's all you should know. Anyway what's your story. You seem so interested in mine you shouldn't care about enlightening me with yours.' Kat rolled her eyes.

'Baby I was born this way.' He made a gesture as if he thought he was fabulous or somethings waving his had at his body. 'My dad was a were as was my mum, I'm supposed to be a pack leader on my eighteenth.' He lost his smile.
'What don't you want to be?' Kat asked. Suddenly hearing noises, the sound of her bedroom window closing alarmed her and she forced herself awake.
'Kat you can't leave me.' Lizzy's voice pierced her ears.
'Ethan...' Kat muttered. Stirring fully awake, 'What the heck Lizzy!'

'You weren't answering your phone or your door.' Lizzy started to explain.
'So you came through my friggin window?' Kat yelled hysterically. Her ocean blue eyes shining bright with frustration and anger.
