Chapter Ten

Kat sipped on her milkshake as she starred into the distance. 'Are you thinking about becoming a pledge to our pack?' Ethan asked her.
'Why I already have a pack and I'm second in command there? Anyway I'm not stopping long enough to join anything anyway.' Kat said.
'What if you were second in command in my pack?' Ethan asked.
'That wouldn't be possible anyway.' Kat argued. 'Anyway let me sing...'
The radio announcer said, 'It's back to the eighties this morning.'
Then they put 'It's tricky' on. Kat sang her heart out to every word of it.
'Wow you're really good. How come you told that guy you stopped singing.' Ethan said.
'Cause I stopped singing...' Kat trailed off. 'How come you... nah I got nothing.' Kat said.
She looked to the side where thousands of trees stood blocking her view. She turned her head to face the front. Then she saw it. The woman in the middle of the road covered in blood. Ethan slammed the breaks on. They jolted forward. The car bonnet had hit the woman. 'So this is what it's like to hitchhike.' A woman's voice called from behind them.
'Who the hell are you?' Ethan shouted in alarm.
Kat was speechless. 'I'm Marissa Chamberlain. Formerly known as Marissa De-Blanche. Who are you?'

'You're... you're... you're...' Kat said shaken up.
'Dead. Yes I know don't wear it out. I'm looking for my children.' Her voice sounded sharp and impatient.
'I'm Ethan. And this is Princ... Kat. This is Kat.' He corrected.
'Kat? My daughters nickname was Kat. What is your name short for.' She asked.
Kat covered her ears 'this can't be happening' Kat thought to herself.
'Are you my daughter is that why I'm here. Well if you know her I need to tell her I lied about something.'

'Lied about what?' Kat asked. Then the woman evaporated into a cloud of condensation. She forced herself not to cry.
'That was your...' Ethan stutter.
'Yeah...' Kat muttered.
'Well it's your official first day again so this time Skylar has told me to show you around. Then we'll meet her in the forum room.' Ethan smiled changing the subject.
'Thanks.' Kat said.
'No problem Princess.' He smirked.
There was an odd silence, and Kat decided to break it. 'Soo... How come you don't like Jake?'
Ethan started to choke on air he coughed and spluttered smiling when he stopped. 'That's your question? Why don't I like Jake? He's an arrogant fool for starters. And he likes you too much. I don't want to lose you, I'm in...' He stopped mid-sentence at the sound of the high pitched ambulance driving past with it's ear bursting sirens.
'I miss it.' Kat blurted out after a few moments of silence. 'I miss my family. I miss the stars.'

'The what now?' Ethan asked raising an eyebrow.
'The stars. They were painted on my ceiling of my bedroom so I'd fall asleep watching them.' Kat sighed. 'They showed the future.'
'Don't be obsird.' Ethan coughed.
'I'm not my mum was a witch. She spelled them for me. They were beautiful.' Kat said as they pulled into the school's car park. A group of people were stood there waiting for Ethan.
They got out the car at the same time. 'Hey Kat.' Jake's voice called out as he rushed over to her to give her a comforting welcome back hug.
'Where the hell have you been? Ethan was worried sick.' Liam's voice called out from the crowd.
Then Kat saw Tori with a wide smirk stretching across her lips as Ethan starred angrily at Jake who was still hugging Kat. She wasn't hugging him back because he'd caught her by surprise. Ethan's little sister stood there too. Finally Jake let go. 'Don't ever do that again. Remember what happened last time you did that?' He said anger flashing in his grass green eyes.

'I... I didn't...' Kat started.
'Kat.' A bitter voice spoke behind her.
'Oh my god Lizzy don't make me break your friggin nose again because we both know I'll...' Kat was interrupted by the clearing of a throat.
'Come on Katie we both know that I want to break her nose first so get in line.' The smirk vanished from Tori's face.
'Who's that?' Tori snorted.

'I'm Electra and if anyone so much as looks at my leader the wrong way I'll hurt them.' She smiled innocently as she cracked her fingers as she walked up to Lizzy.
'You don't want to mess with me, dog.' Lizzy spat in a vicious rage.
'Oh and Kat, Ty and Jimmy are waiting for you in the office. They said something about an investigation of some sort about a car crash ten years ago.' Electra smiled as she punched Lizzy in the mouth.
'Elle!' Kat gasped. 'You weren't supposed to hit... Oh never mind...' Kat said handing Electra the rest of her chocolate shake. As she shook her head and raced over to the office.
'Thanks boss!' Electra called after her.
'Ethan bought it.' Kat called back.
'Thank Ethan.' Electra laughed.
