Girl Next Door

He was the epitome of charisma.

His dark brown curls gorgeously framed his sculpted face and every girl was at his feet. You guessed it, I was just another one of those girls. I was just one of those girls who only dreamed of being able to make him happy... Or laugh, or give a small smile even.

I've tried to get over him, tried to force my mind to think he was just a school girl crush, but ever since he lent me his dark green crayon in kindergarten, it hasn't gotten better...

The popular girl always got the guy. Always.

In the real world anyways...

I wasn't that girl.

Instead, I was the girl who kept a whole journal dedicated to drawing him and writing about what I adored about him. The little things.

It may sound creepy but, Harry doesn't have to know right?

I was pretty much the girl next door, quite literally.

I lived across from him. I still remember the day he first moved in, clear as day. It was when I was in fifth grade, and my mom had sent me over there to hand them a basket of baked goods to welcome them to the neighborhood. Harry had answered the door and politely smiled and made small talk, but I just smiled and nodded, admiring his beauty in that proximity. Eventually, the moment ended and I had ran upstairs and flopped down on my bed with the hugest grin on my face.

Now, stolen glances are all I get of Harry, and looking out the window to look into his room. It's painful to see Kendall parading in there sometimes, with those slim legs and her flat stomach, and them making out against the window, but she makes him happy and I don't. End of story.

I tugged on the hem of my sweater as I spotted Harry approaching me, but the dull roar of the classroom had distracted me the whole time. For the first time actually.

"Hey, Taylor right?" He asked, a kind smile taking over his face.

"Uh, yeah?" I replied, pushing my hair back as it fell in my face, "Yeah. I mean. Yes."

"Okay, good." He laughed and I cringed profusely at my dumb self, "Listen, I heard your mum is a jeweler, and my girlfriend's birthday is coming up... So... Would it be possible to maybe put my name in for me? I rang the other day and there were four hundred more orders to wait for and it's kind of urgent..."

"Um, yeah, sure I'll ask mom." I smiled politely and ignored the painful sensation eating away at my heart.

"Oh, thank you so much, I really owe you one." He winked and walked back to his seat as the bell rung for lunch.

He ended up getting a heart shaped locket from Tiffany & Co, and he told me she loved it and he thanked me a million times. All in email though.

Now, standing by my locker, they walked past with their hands held tightly together and that chain dangling from her neck and he looked at her with a look in his eyes that I know he would never look at me with.

The knife in my heart twisted.

It was okay, though. Because in the end, Harry was happy and that's all I've ever wanted.

But he was also all I've ever wanted...
