I froze. I didn’t know what else to do. The guy personally responsible for ruining my life was back in town, at the same party as me, and was currently walking towards me.
Jace grabbed my hand and tried to pull me out of the kitchen but it was no use. I was frozen, like my body had completely shut down.
As Mickey stopped in front of me, Jace stepped in front of me to block Mickey’s view of me.
Mickey didn’t like that at all. In face he didn’t like Jace. He didn’t like how close we were. He didn’t like that Jace was always around me. He didn’t like that Jace was always threatened him if he were to ever hurt me.
There was a lot of thing Mickey hated. Like the word “no.”
That’s why he did what he did. It was so bad two and a half years ago. I can remember everything like it happened yesterday.
FLASHBACK
“I love you, I swear I do. You mean the world to me. I just don’t understand why you keep saying no. What’s the problem baby? Don’t you love me?”
“How could you even say that? You know that I love you. But that is a big step Mickey. We haven’t even graduated yet. Were still kids Mickey. We don’t need to make that big of a commitment yet. What if you change your mind? What if – “
“There is always going to be fucking ‘what ifs’ in life Ky. We love each other. We should make it last forever. Kya, tell me yes. Everything will be perfect.”
“Mickey we aren’t ready for this. We aren’t even old enough! Why do you want this so bad?”
“Because I love you Kya! I don’t want the chance to come around where someone can steal you from me. I can’t lose you again. Ky, I can’t.”
“You lost me because you cheated on me! You made that damn choice Mickey! Not me! You’re lucky I even took you back after that.”
“Ky, I’m begging you….please…”
“Mickey, I don’t know…”
“Please Kya, will you please marry me?”
“No Mickey! We aren’t even old enough. We aren’t –“
“Fine but don’t expect me to stick around.”
END OF FLASHBACK
That was the last day I saw Mickey. The day he walked out on me. He moved somewhere far away and I hadn’t heard about him since. But here he is standing there.
“Jace, move out of the way.” Mickey growled at my best friend.
“I won’t let you hurt her again. She deserves better than that. Better than you!” Jace said to Mickey through gritted teeth.
I stepped between the boys then. I didn’t want them to fight. Especially about me!
“Jace, go dance. I think its time I finally told Mickey what I think of him.”
Jace tried to argue but I put my hand up to let him know I wasn’t in the mood. He hesitated for a moment before giving Mickey a death glare and walking out of the kitchen.
“Ky, I’ve missed you –“
“No, Mickey. Don’t give me that shit! You left me! Remember?!?! I won’t listen to that shit. Not then, not now. Why are you back? Was ruining me then not enough? Decide that since I’ve reinvented myself you should come ruin that too? Give me the truth for once Mickey. I at least deserve the truth!”
