the next day dawns quicker than expected, but for once, you're not dreading it. there's a certain excitement humming under your skin at the thought of seeing a certain curly-haired boy.

no labels, no definitions — just the warmth of knowing you don't have to keep shoving down the feelings that have been growing inside you.

when liam pulls up in his car to pick you up, his face lights up at the sight of you practically floating down the driveway. he raises an eyebrow, chuckling as he watches you buckle in.

"you look chipper," he teases, nudging you lightly. "what's got you in such a good mood?"

you give him an exaggerated eye roll but can't help smiling as you gaze out the window, watching the barren trees whip by in a blur.

"can you keep a secret?" you ask, leaning over slightly, fingers fidgeting with the edge of your bag.

he grins and gives you a nod, but you miss the glint of mischief in his eyes.

"harry and i spent the whole day together yesterday."

his smirk grows wider.

"oh really?" he pauses, and you can see he's got something up his sleeve. "clothes on or off?"

"liam!" you shriek, smacking him on the arm with an incredulous laugh, cheeks flushing red.

by the time lunch rolls around, it's clear liam hadn't kept his word.

serena and the others are all over you with teasing and knowing glances. she elbows you, pretending to swoon, and jaxon leans in close, wiggling his eyebrows in that obnoxious way of his.

you laugh it off, enduring it alone, though you can't help but feel a bit disappointed at the lack of harry in the halls.

you'd been hoping for a sly smile across the table or a quiet moment in between classes, but he's nowhere to be seen.

it's not until serena nudges you excitedly in seventh period that you remember danielle peazer's infamous back-to-school party is happening tonight.

you're torn between the buzz of a party with all your friends and the thought of getting more alone time with harry—though it's the former that wins in the end.

maybe tonight you'll finally get a chance to talk to him.

later that night, you and your friends pile into liam's car, the sound of music and laughter filling the small space as he drives you all to danielle's place.

the house is already packed when you arrive, a mix of music and chatter spilling out onto the street.

you make your way through the crowd, exchanging greetings and laughing with friends, but your mind keeps drifting to harry.
