The Bully
A Short Story
by Jemily PierreYou know the world is a bubble that you're stuck in with people that may or may not ruin your life. Bullies are like a jelly bean that tastes like barf, it's just wrong. No one in the world should ever be bullied. Everyone knows that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest soldiers and I think that I may be one of those people that has a strong battle. OK, I'm sorry that I didn't introduce myself and I just went over to bullying. Hi my name is Jemily, I am thirteen years old and my bully's name is Marla. I know that I've been told many times to let the rocks roll down my back and act like they don't hurt when I know they really do. Right now I know that I really need to defend myself, but that's not what we are talking about. We are gonna talk about a story called "The Bully." It was a Monday morning and I was ready to go to school and as I was walking I saw Marla and got so scared that I hid behind the bush of the crazy old lady on McKennedy Street. Her name was Mrs. Applebottom or that's what the kids in her neighborhood call her because she is obsessed with apple bottom jeans. Crazy I know but anyway, I hid behind her bush more scared than ever and that's when I hear "get up pipsqueak, I can see you," she said. My body is getting warm, my hands are shaking, and my heart is racing. I'm thinking of what to say and then I say it. "What do you need Marla?" Then I realized I made a terrible decision talking to her like that. "What did you just say to me," she asked. I knew that I would be living in hell if I ever talked to her like that again. "Nothing," I said. She rolled her eyes at me then left. Inside I feel a huge relief, but then I realized that she might embarrass me and taunt me in school because of what I said. "I feel so stupid," I said aloud. I hope she doesn't do anything when I get to school. Mrs. Applebottom looked at me and shook her head. In my head, I'm wondering why she shook her head at me. Is she disappointed in me because I did not defend myself? Not knowing why she was upset, I walked away. By the time I got to school It was 7:50. I realized that I was five minutes late for school, but my teacher didn't notice. As I sat down I saw the the blonde hair of Marla and she saw me too. She gave me that stare that your mom gives you when you say something that you shouldn't have said. Then she made a fist and punched her hand then she mouthed that she was gonna beat me up. I tried to tell my teacher but I feel like she will kill me and I mean literally hunt me down and even when I'm dead she will still try to hurt me even more. The day was almost over. I was ready to go home until she came up to me and asked me a question. "Hey skunk, where's my money?" I asked her what money. She said the money I told you to have for me everyday. I said I don't have it. She then told me to give her twenty dollars tomorrow. Ten for today and ten for tomorrow. I told her ok. The next day I got up extra early to so I wouldn't have to run into Marla. I was happy that I made it to school without having to see Marla. When I got to school I kept hearing people say "did you hear what happened, did you hear what happened?" I hid somewhere so no could see me. A girl in my class said "Marla got hit by a car." I was so surprised and happy at the same time. I was happy because I didn't have to deal with Marla for a while, but I was surprised because I never really thought that Marla would understand what it means to get hurt no matter if it was emotionally, verbally, or physically. The next couple of days no sign of Marla so I have a really great week. The next week I was gonna have a great week or so I thought. I got to school and who did I see the "Queen of Mean". I saw Marla and was so upset because I knew that we were back to the same routine. "Where's my money!?", she said in the meanest, loudest, most aggressive voice ever. "Well Marla, I didn't know that you were coming today so I don't have your money. I'm so sorry", I said in an afraid quivering voice. She was so upset that she made a fist bigger than a honeydew and punched me in my left eye. POWWWWW. I went home crying and so upset. My mom asks me what wrong I tell her that I slipped and fell in the bathroom. I was afraid to go to school the next day, but my mom forced me to go. I got to school and already I'm being called pirate because my bruised eye is covered with a patch. I hear "MOVE OUT OF MY WAY!" I already know it's her because I can hear her loud footsteps coming. "I gave you too many days pipsqueak, now where is my money?", she said loudly. " Here." I said in an upset and frustrated way. I rolled my eyes and quickly walked away before she could stop me. "Wait hold up" she said. "There's some money missing, you're missing five dollars." I said, "Ya I know I needed five dollars for lunch". "No, you don't. Put the five dollars here." she said. Then I said, "But then what will I eat for lunch?" She said," You don't have to eat you're big enough as it is." I'm thinking in my head 'why did she just say that to me I'm not even big. She is bigger than me.' I gave her the money and walked away, and as I walk away she says " And don't pull this little stunt again". I just ignore her. I get home and my mom asks me how was my day and I say it was good in a very happy way. My mom says good like the perfect most wonderful mom she is. I got a call from school today she said. I thought that it was about something good because I know that I never do anything wrong. She said the principal called and told me that you stole Marla's five dollars, then when she asked for it you told her it was your lunch money, then when she said she had no lunch, you said that she was big enough as it is and she didn't need to eat. What I said in a loud, upset, and confused way. I was outraged. I was ready to just burst into flames. I yelled and hollered that I didn't do anything. My mom who I thought would always defend me was on Marla's side. She said that why would Marla ever lie about something so serious. I said I don't know but I didn't do anything. She grounded me and I was so upset that I wanted to say all the things in the world. It was a Friday, my favorite school day and I came in running down the hall. I went straight to Marla ready to give her a piece of my mind when I heard footsteps and I felt my heart racing. She stood in front of me wondering if I'm gonna say anything. She said "yessss" as if she was waiting for me to say something. I said that I needed to say something to her. She looked at me and said " well what are you gonna say. Are you too chicken to say it?" She goes bwaaaaaaaaak. Bock, bock, bock. In my head, I am thinking of so many things but I'm too afraid to say them, so I just walk away. She just stood there and just laughed at me without even stopping for a second and she kept on making chicken sounds. I leave school and as I leave I see Mrs. Applebottom and she tells me to go to her. I tell her that I have to get home to my mom. She says it will be quick. I go to her nervous and afraid. She says "hello Jemily my dear." I say "How do you know my name?" She tells me that she know everyone's name. I thought about it and I realized that she was pretty nice. She wanted me to go with her to her house. I tell her that I really shouldn't and she says that it's ok that I could go in. I walk in and the house is dark. When she turns on the light all I see is apple bottom this apple bottom that. Clothes. Shoes, decorations, even wallpaper. I didn't want to but I know if I didn't ask then it might haunt me forever. "Why are you so obsessed with apple bottom," I say. She explained to me that when she was in high school, the love of her life liked when she would wear apple bottom. Now that he is dead she wears apple bottom to remember him. I told her that I was sorry for her loss and that I was sorry that I never really gave her a chance. My big question that has been bothering me was why did she look disappointed in me the other day. She told me that she expected me to be a tougher person. She told me for the past years even when I didn't see her she saw me and she was watching me how I act and behave. "You are a great girl, and bright too", she said in an eighty-year-old voice. I told her "Thank you" for the kind words that she said and I also told her that I am afraid. She asked, "If Marla tells you to go kill yourself would you do it?" I told her no because my life is to precious and to important for me to kill and I told her that it would be a terrible sin to kill what Jehovah gave me. She said, "so if you would tell her no that you wouldn't kill yourself why can't you tell her no to stop bullying you." I told her that I was afraid that Marla would hurt me. "Marla won't hurt you, you will hurt and surprise Marla." I tried to understand but eventually I ended up thinking of all the bad things that could happen. I went home and my mother immediately asks where have I been. I explained that I was with Ms. Apple Bottom. My mom was upset, but at the same time, she was ok with it. The next day which was a Friday. All excited I get up out of bed, take my shower, brush my teeth, get dressed, eat my breakfast, and get in the car and head to school because I felt too lazy to walk to school. The first person I see is Marla and I am just ready to give her a piece of my mind. As she stood next to her locker, I said "hey Marla, I-"and she was giving me a death stare. I said, "don't look at me like that." She was gonna throw her fist, but I stopped it. She was surprised. I said "you need to stop bullying me and all the other people that you bully. We are all tired of you and now we are confident enough to stop you." She was laughing really hard. She said, "are you serious?" I said "damn right I am, you better get your rude looking tail to the office, confess all the crap that you have done, then leave this school. She asked me if I was talking to her. You bet your mama molasses I'm talking to you. I told her that she had ten seconds to do what I said or she would have regretted it. I began to get ready then POWWWWWW, just like she did to me I gave her what she asked for. I guess that she was so surprised and scared that she left right after. Everyone that was in the hall began clapping for me except for her squad they ran so quick. I went to the principal's office and confessed what I did and got in a little bit of trouble for punching Marla, but Marla got in way more trouble than I did because all of Marla's victims told what she did. My life is better than ever and I can go to school without having to worry about Marla. Now Marla goes to a juvenile hall where they will help her become a better person and her squad continues to go to my school. Ms. Applebottom became one of my really good friends and every day I would visit her. I go to school everyday without a doubt and there were no more bullies or so I thought.
