The last years of any school should be easy, right?
Wrong. Senior year of college at USD and I'm stressed out of my mind. I need to get the details of my internship. Thanks to the lovely Kris Bryant, I got my athletic training internship requirement at the Chicago Cubs spring training camp. After a visit back to his school, Maddie, the main trainer here told him about my internship dilemma, and he gladly offered to take me in. I'm not complaining, not at all. It's just, Arizona sounds hot.
Okay, yeah. I'm from California but still. My spring break was going to be spent in New York with my friends and now I'll be in Arizona with a baseball team which I knew two players of. That meant research.
It's been three days, and I've memorized most of the roster. It's currently 4am and I was quizzing myself. Arrieta, pitcher. Jason Heyward, right field. Or was it left? I'm screwed. I'm going to make an enormous fool of myself. I checked my email for any Sephora news and saw and email from Maddie from a day ago.
Violet,
During Spring Training, you will be working with the Cubs' athletic trainers during each session. You will arrive on February 18 and your flight accommodations will be dropped off tomorrow. Your flight is in two days.Wait, she expects me to pack for two and a half months in a day? Holy shit.
Your uniform will be at the facility in Arizona, and consists of khaki shorts/pants, a shirt, and a pack. You will work everyday, so don't expect too much leeway besides illness. The players, coaches, and staff are here to work. So be serious. They don't have time for college foolery. I hope you know all the players, because that's who you'll be seeing a lot of. You'll be in the dugout during games as well. Get ready for sweat and smells.
Your tickets will be here tomorrow, and someone will be picking you up from the airport. Just look for a sign. The team and staff are male oriented, so be prepared to be the only female. But do amazing and show them how it's done. You'll be staying where the team is, and get your own room.
More information will be given when you arrive. You'll meet with some players at the airport and carpool to the housing development. You'll be sharing a house with people, and they probably won't be female. Sorry, but you're smart and strong enough. You did major in psychology, so don't mess with their heads, and don't let them mess with you. I'm kidding, you'll be fine.
We're all gonna miss you, and hope you have a safe, fun, and educational trip.
Love,
The USD Athletic TrainersI gotta start packing. I drag my suitcase from my closet and start throwing clothes in their. Sweats, jeans, leggings, shirts, tanks, dresses. Why would I need a dress? I'm brining three anyway. I started packing toiletries as well. Makeup? I probably shouldn't...
Fuck it. I wanna look good. Maybe there's a banquet or something that I can dress up in a dress and wear makeup. I don't know! No one tells me anything.
I finished packing in four hours, and it was 8am. Well, I can live off of no sleep. I still needed to memorize the roster.
"God dammit why are there 700 pitchers." I mumbled to myself, running my hands through my hair.
"There's only 25, chill." Maddie said.
"Jesus fuck you ever heard of knocking?" I sighed, "I didn't want to die of cardiac arrest a day before my internship."
