Chapter Three
(Reese)
As I held the vampire in my arms, I considered what would happen next. The pack could like he, but that was one step short of impossible. They, mainly the guys, would hate her. I didn't want anybody to hate my mate. She was the best thing in my life. Remembering that, I tried not to stiffen. They were still out there, and they were looking for revenge, I knew it. I could not tell anyone about my mate. But I refused to reject, and hurt, her in any way. Call me selfish, but I'd much rather have her protected by me and maybe happy, instead of protected but deeply hurt. I don't think I could live with that later on in my life. Knowing I made that mistake.
I returned back to focusing on the vampire. Content, I stuck my nose in her hair and discreetly sniffed, not getting enough of her scent. I hadn't felt this happy since before Dad... passed away. Against my own, I felt her chest shake with a held back guffaw. She had totally noticed my obsessed sniff. I didn't mind. I wanted her, and everyone else, to know who she belonged to. Me. And only me.
But the first thing I would do tomorrow is make her mask her scent. Although I loved it, it was pretty obvious she was a vampire. I didn't want the pack or any rogues doing anything to her.
Soon, I was forced to let go of my lovely mate. Tyler had mind-linked me, seeing me run after "the vampire chick" but not knowing or asking why thank god. Apparently, the bell had rang to end lunch. My heart was still happily pounding. She had promised to never leave me. That's all I could ask from my mate. I was so relieved and joyful I couldn't even explain to myself in any form. I am ecstatic to get to know her and maybe love her soon if not already.
"This is going to sound quier, but. . . I do not even know your name," her velvety soft voice asked when we pulled away, my arms still around her waist. Remembering that we had to go back, I let go, ignoring the flash of an odd emotion in her eyes.
"My name's Reese," I gently whispered. I didn't know why, but at that time, being gentle and quiet seemed to be the best and only thing I could do.
"Reese. . . ," she repeated in that sexy voice of hers. I held back a groan at the way she said it. Damn it, what's she doing to me? "My name is Lucille."
"Lulu," I immediately said. She stiffened. I noticed. "What's wrong?" I asked, watching her face.
"Nobody has ever called me anything but Lucille or Lucy," she murmured. I gulped. Right. Formal vampires. Formal! Remember that! my wolf scolded.
"Oh. Sorry - " I was cut off by her as she hugged me again, tighter. I immediately shut up. I could get used to this.... Having my mate control me just so long as she touched me.
"Do not be sorry. I love it," she murmured, hugging me yet one more time. I contently sighed, my heart throbbing as I hugged her back. I wanted to stay there forever with her safe in my arms, but reality kicked in. We had to go back, I repeated again in my head trying to force it there. I didn't want to get my mate in trouble, despite that I was the alpha.
"I'm sorry, babe, but we have to go back," I said. My hand slowly drifted down her back, my mouth smirking at the shivers it recieved from her.
She sighed and pulled away, leaving me with cold arms. "You are right."
"One thing," I said, grabbing Lulu's arm as she began to go. Lulu. My new nickname for her. Lucille glanced up at me, startled.
"Yes?" she asked, raising a thin eyebrow. Off topic, my mind wondered if she had to pluck those and was it painful? Or where they just... natural?
