My eyes were shut tight as the crown lowered down to my head. Everything seemed to go in slow motion as my coronation was coming to a close. I was about to become the king of France.

But, instead of feeling the cold, hard metal against my head I heard it fall to the ground with a loud clang.

Screams accompanied it.

I opened my eyes, curious and frightened. There, behind the large audience all seated in pews, stood a large group of men.

They wore dark outfits. I believe they had on bulletproof vests. Almost everyone of them wore helmets, except for three in the front.

The three in the front had their helmets off, and they stood next to each other.

The one on the left had owl-like features. He had round, yellow eyes and big grey eyebrows. His spiky hair was different shades of gray and he was smiling crazily.

The guy on the far right had messy black hair and narrow slate gray eyes. He looked bored, as though he's done this a million times, although everyone in their group seemed like they knew what they were doing as well.

Finally, in the middle of the two was a tall man with cat like features. His build seemed thin, but muscular. He could easily be a sportsman, but whatever he's doing now is the path he's chosen. His black bed head covered one of his eyes, while the other was narrowed. He wore a sly smirk as he began to shout.

"We're here for the prince. If you resist we will take your life!" He said, his voice silencing the room.

Screams rang out once again as the civilians attempted to escape.

I remained frozen, unsure of what to do.

Then, as the three men at the front of the group began to walk up to us, my mother jumped in front of me.

"You can't take my son!" She said, looking back at me. Her golden eyes shined brightly. She looked back towards the men and spoke "Take me instead!"

"Ma'am, we don't want to hurt anyone. We just want your son. But, if you resist, you might not make it out of this situation alive." The man in the front said.

"No, I'll protect him with all I've got, no matter what threats you use. I won't let you hurt hi-" her words were cut off by the sound of a gunshot.

A painful silence ensued as she fell to the ground.

My eyes flicked from her body up to the men. My long brown hair covered my face as tears fell from my eyes like waterfalls.

"You monsters." I said, looking up at them with narrowed eyes. "She's all I have. You could've just moved her. I would've let you take me. But, you took her life instead of just bringing me with you." My voice cracked at the end of my sentence.

Tears fell from my eyes as I hugged her body to my chest.

"Kenma," she said, her voice raspy.

She was still alive?

"Yes mother?" I asked, hugging her tighter.

"I don't want to die Kenma." She said, coughing up blood.

The state she was in brought tears to my eyes. She had been shot in the shoulder, and it was obvious that she was in pain. Her chin was covered in blood that she had spit up, and tears fell from her beautiful eyes. Her once bright, tan skin had paled, and her hand went cold.

"Mother?" I asked through tears.

She didn't respond.

"Mom? Mom please answer me. You can't leave me. You're all I have left. Please. Don't go away too."

No sound was heard other than the sound o me sobbing. I held her hand to my chest, mourning her death.

My father placed his hand on my shoulder.

"Kenma, I get that you're mourning. But, we have to go. We'll be killed."

I looked angrily back at my father.

"I hate you," I said, brushing his hand off my shoulder. "You're a rude, horrible man. You only married mother so you could call yourself a king. You don't deserve what you got."

My words obviously had taken him aback, but he took his hand off my shoulder.

"Fine. You're right. I never loved any of you. I hate you especially." He said, his words biting. He walked away, picking up my little brother as he walked away.

My brother, Kaito, reached back.

"Ken-chan." He said, his eyes tearing up.

"Goodbye Kaito." I whispered, looking back at the others.

What do they want with me? I've never been a good fighter, so I wouldn't be able to fit in with them. I've never really been good at anything. I just read and play video games.

"What do you want?" I asked them.

"You." They spoke.

"It's obvious that you can't get a ransom. My father and I hate each other. The only person who cared was my mother."

The one in the middle shouted back to another in a language I couldn't understand. The man threw a bag towards the one closer to me.

He pulled out a newspaper.

It had a picture of me on the head page. The title read:

Kozume Kenma, prince turned serial killer: The eldest son of queen Marie and King Rokuro was found dazed and confused surrounded by the bodies of several of his servants. Although he claims to not know what was happening, the evidence led to him being the one to pull the move. But, due to his royal status he was free to go.

Memories flooded my head. Ones that I had shut out years ago. My brain felt like it had been reduced to mush as I remembered everything.

And then, in an instant, my surroundings had disappeared. Everything went black.
