~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It was strange....very strange. The academic term was nearing to an end but there was no sign of Henry. He was like gone! Miss Helen tried calling his parents to ask why he was being absent for being this long but no one picked up the phone. I tried to call and talk to him too but there was no answer.
Where was Henry? Why was he being absent for so long??
Eventually, after a month before our final exams, his name was struck off the rolls and was expelled! The term came to an end. I got excellent marks and was promoted to the 10th grade and it were the holidays again.
On the day when the results of the final exam were announced, I asked Miss Helen for Henry's address and she gave it to me. ''He lives in the Redmond Apartment near Green Square Park.''
Green Square Park? That was the name of the park where my brother's death happened. That is where I still went for an evening stroll. How come I missed him!? This was quite a surprise and mystery as every single kid from every apartment in that locality would come for an evening play or stroll in the park and how come I missed Henry.
On the second day of my holidays before my new academic term started, I dressed into my favourite dress which had a hoodie. It was evening and it looked like rain as it was all dark and moody. I walked upto the park and looked around and finally spotted it; Redmond Apartment.
It was a stylish, red building and I walked into it. There was dead silence. Miss Helen also told me that Henry's room was in the 3rd floor, room number '3D'.
I soon reached the third floor and made my way to the room. I rang the doorbell. No one opened the door. I rang the doorbell four times but still, no one answered. Suddenly, the door opposite me was opened by a lady.
She was blond-haired and looked middle-aged. ''Why are you ringing that doorbell, dear?'' she asked.
''I came here to meet my friend. His name is Henry. Doesn't he live here?'' I asked, quite puzzled.
The lady looked surprised and amused.
''What are you talking about, dear? Nobody lives there! Infact-''
''But-'' I tried to cut in but then-
''Let me finish-infact, this Henry you are looking for you is dead! His parents commited suicide a week after his death. They couldn't bear the death of their ONLY son. The poor things! Their son drowned while he was trying to save a boy from drowning in the river running along the Green Square Park, some years back. Unfortunately, the boy who he was trying to save also drowned.'' and she went away. I stood there, rooted to the spot.
Henry....DEAD!? No....it can't be!!! I....everyone saw him alive before their eyes. He was there!! With us!! We were all friends!! He was there....in human!! He tried to save a boy drowning from a river near the park......some years back......
Then, things clicked and clacked in place. The 'boy' Henry was trying to save was my brother! It was he who was trying to save Kyle!! Oh my God But then....who did I saw.....his ghost!?
Yes, after a lot of thinking, I figured out it was his ghost who was helping me all along. Henry was a ghost!
I walked out, confused and dumbfounded. No one was there in the park as it had started raining. I ran to the park, hoping for something to happen. Then, something did happen as I hoped for-
In the distance, I saw someone walking towards me. It was Henry. But now, he looked different. He was dressed in a snow-white shirt and pants and emitted a white, angel-like aura around him.
''Oh Henry....why did you?'' I exclaimed.
''Now you know.'' he said, smiling.
''But you....a ghost?''
Henry turned back and started saying ''My death while trying to save your brother resulted in my parents breaking apart and then commiting suicide. The same was going to happen to you and your family. I didn't want the same to happen to you and your parents. When I looked at your family, I was determined not to let you and your family be casted off into the cruel hands of Death. I am happy in what I have done, now. This boy who helped you is someone who lost his life, causing the death of his parents......and this boy didn't want to happen the same to another family.'
I said nothing. Rain was pouring down, making everything quite foggy.
''Bye Johnny. I enjoyed my time, my days, my friendship with you. May you fare well!'' and giving me a smile, he turned around and walked away. A strange mist from nowhere covered him and slowly, he disappeared.
I just stood there, looking at the direction in which he went away.
Conclusion
As I stand here, right now, as a happy-going employee in an IT Conpany, earning a huge, good salary every month, I wish for Henry, my true, great friend to rest in peace. I never told anyone that Henry was a dead person as I didn't want my friends to label me as a mad person, again. I just told them that Henry had taken TC and left the area.
All was well.
