The sound a breaking plates and yelling is all you can hear on the empty Tacoma street, Aspen sighed.

"He's on a rager again" she mumbled to herself.

She pauses and takes her earbuds out and tucks her phone and earbuds away. This not the first time she's come home to her father in a drunken rage, and it definitely won't be the last. She heaved another sigh and headed to her large porch surrounded by Japanese cherry blossoms. She hesitates before reaching to the golden door knob on her large oak front door. 'I don't have to go in, I could leave' she thinks to herself. Her daydreaming comes to a screeching halt when the front door swings open to a drunken red-faced man.

"Hello fath-" before she can finish her sentence he grabs her roughly and yanks her inside.

"Where have you been Aspen, you're three hours late!! What is so important that you are this late?!?!" She flinched at the tone in his voice, he was very drunk. And very pissed.

"I'm sorry sir, there was a school event I went to. I didn't think it'd be a big deal. I didn't know I was gone so long" this of course, only enraged him more.

After a several hour lecture, he finally got bored and let her go to her room. When she finally got to the safety of her room, she checked her phone. "60 text messages and 6 voicemails, damn. Savannah isn't gonna be pleased." Savanah called Aspen once more, this time she answered.

"What the HELL Aspen!?"

"Savannah, I'm sor-"

"No, don't explain. You were probably out fucking someone else huh? Why don't you ever TALK to me, Aspen? I don't know what I'm doing wrong or why you hate me so much!"

"Savanah, baby I don't-"

"Don't FUCKING lie to me Aspen, I'm done!" With that Savanah hung up.

Aspen sighed and texted her. 'baby, I'm sorry I scared you. My dad was lecturing me. You know I love you, please text back - Aspen'.

Aspen plugged her phone in and went to do some last minute homework, she knew Savannah would reply eventually. Or she hoped she would. She really did love that girl, despite her anger towards her. Besides it probably was Aspen's fault anyways. She crawled into bed and thought back to what she said to her father, she felt bad for lying to him, but what could she do? He would never let her leave again if he knew she was going to the humane society to volunteer instead of staying after school! Still, she had to be more careful. She laid in bed wondering if the dogs missed her, she sure missed them.

Her alarm blared loudly in her ear. She rolled over and groggily slapped around to turn off the loud noise. After successfully locating and turning off the noise, she flipped over and glanced out her window longingly. Her alarm started screaming at her again so she decided it was time to get out of bed. She went to look in the mirror and noticed dark purple hand marks on her arms.

"Well shit, I don't have any long sleeves" she sighed and walked up to her closet to try and find some way to hide the bruises her father left from the night before.

After about thirty minutes of rummaging through her closet she finds a gray long sleeve.

"Perfect" she whispered to herself.

She gathers the supplies needed for her shower before carefully tiptoeing downstairs. Showers had always been her happy place, she never had to be anyone other than herself when taking one. She could just be a girl. She liked that.

After her satisfying shower she returned to her room, since her hair was cut short she didn't have to spend much time in her mornings fidgeting with it. Her parents didn't approve of makeup, it wasn't god's way they'd say. If there was any times she ever wanted to roll her eyes at her parents it was when they spoke of god. She never understood why people worshiped someone who was dead long ago. Or why he'd hate her for liking women.

Her phone buzzed and snapped her out of her thought process, it was Savannah. 'I'll be outside in 13 minutes, be ready then, i don't want you to make me late again. - Savannah.' Aspen gathered up her school work from the night prior and tossed on her favorite black books before heading out front to wait in the chilly morning air.

Savannah pulled up a couple minutes later.

"Get in" she ordered.

"So demanding, I like" Aspen giggled back.

Aspen's family didn't know she liked girls. They'd probably crucify her if they did. Aspen was so deep in thought about her parents and how much of a lesbian she was, she didn't even notice they had pulled up to the school. Savannah glared at her. "What has you so deep in thought? You didn't say anything to me that entire ride!"

Savannah has always been rather needy, Aspen didn't mind. She knew savannah only gave her grief because she loved her.

"I was just thinking about my parents. I'm thinking of coming out to them"

Savannah cackled, "You? Coming out to your parents? Pa-lease, you don't have the guts to. Besides, they wouldn't let you see me anymore, and we can't have that".

With that last statement, Savannah got out of the car and flipped her golden locks behind her. She was right, her parents would never let her be a homosexual. Afterall, it was forbinon. Aspen slid out of the car and pursued Savannah. The sooner the day was over, the sooner she could see her dogs.
