The Biggest Mistake

Chapter 3

  "Heatherpaw! Frecklepaw! Dawnpaw!"
The Clan was shouting her name! She was proud, Heatherpaw was a new apprentice! And she was very happy about her mentor. Turtletail! Heatherpaw didn't know if he knew, but she loved him. Dawnpaw wasn't going to be a warrior. Dawnpaw was choosing the path of a medicine cat. Heatherpaw was deep in thought. And then Frecklepaw bumped into her.
"Can you believe that we are finally apprentices?!" He exclaimed.
"I know! We will have our own nests, and we won't be so boxed in!!" "I'm going to miss them though.." Heatherpaw said.
"Hey! We get to be denmates with Darkpaw again!!" Frecklepaw said, retrying to cheer up Heatherpaw.
Darkpaw was forced to become an apprentice without her littermates. Softkit and Petalkit got a bout of greencough that, ultimately killed them. Darkpaw came bursting out of the medicine den.
"Hey! Frecklepaw!"
"Darkpaw! Hi!" Frecklepaw said.
Frecklepaw rubbed her muzzle against Darkpaw's. That was weird. She never thought that Frecklepaw and Darkpaw were so close. Turtletail was approaching her.
"Hey Heatherpaw! Ready to learn something new?" He asked.
"Of course! I am!" Replied Heatherpaw.
Turtletail lead her out of camp. They approached a big pile of rocks. "This is rockpile. We come here to go to the lake for water. But be careful from time to time there is adders." He told her.
"Ok, I'll be careful Turtletail." She reassured him.
Turtletail expertly climbed to the top of the rocks. He waited at the top for her. She carefully put a paw on the first rock. Turtletail gave her careful instructions on how to get up. He didn't come and help, but he waited. She finally made it to the top. Turtletail climbed down, while she took a minute to admire the lake.
She was once again deep in thought, when all of a sudden she heard Turtletail yell "ADDER!!"
Heatherpaw whipped her head around only to see an adder slithering towards her. It bared its teeth and went right for her stomach. Heatherpaw felt the adders sharp teeth dig into her belly. Everything went black. That's when Heatherpaw knew it was the end.
