Chapter Nine: Merlin's death

Gwaine’s POV

“They took Arthur and Merlin,” I said.

“I am telling you the truth. I am not your enemy. I want to help you get them back. I love Merlin you have to trust me,” said Freya to me.

“If Arthur was here,” began Argravaine.

Freya looked at Argravaine angrily. “He is working with them!” she shouted.

“Enough of that I can believe that Merlin and Arthur have been taken but you being innocent and Argravaine being a part of it all I doubt that. Why would he still be here,” said Gwaine.

“I believe her,” said Gaius.

“Gaius what are you saying?” I asked him.

“I am saying that Argravaine is a traitor,” said Gaius.

Merlin’s POV

Morgana gripped onto me and chucked me back into the arena. We had tried everything but I had tripped at the last hurdle. I can’t stand, I can barley breath and I’m bleeding to death. Arthur has been knocked out. Lee did it. I still couldn’t believe I had trust that guy.

“You have failed your king for the first and last time,” laughed Morgause.

“If you’re going to kill me just do it,” I said angrily.

  “Oh Merlin you’re so brave but we wouldn’t make it easy for you,” said Morgana.

“Easy...you call this easy,” I said to her as she gripped onto my hair. I’m surprised my skull hasn’t cracked with the amount of times I’ve been hit. Morgana smashed my head against the ground floor. Oh that adds to the list.

My head began to throb with pain. I have one option and I have to do it now. I took my chance shouted a spell making them both fly backwards. I began to call the Great Dragon.

As Morgause and Morgana got to their feet in anger the ceiling collapsed and I dived to the side as the dragon landed in front of me. He looked down at me and then at Morgana and Morgause. He used his fire at them and they fled. “Arthur!” I shouted his name who was close by but still out cold.

“Young warlock,” said the great dragon.

“I need you to get me and Arthur out of here...,” I begged him.

“I will young warlock,” he smiled to me.

Arthur’s POV

The dragon landed near as Camelot as possible. I got Merlin down into my arms; he is out cold and is slowly dying. He hasn’t got long and the dragon told me he has done the best he can but Gaius will be the only one to be able to save him. I nodded to him before I rushed through the forest towards the castle.

I saw Merlin getting paler. He can’t die he has to make it. He has too!

I reached the lower town after none stop heavy running. I headed towards the castle and straight towards Gaius chamber. I got the knights calling my name and asking where I had been but I ignored them. Merlin is more important right now.

I kept going not looking back. I finally reached the castle courtyard. Merlin you can make it, stay with me....oh please he can’t die. I saw Gaius coming down the steps and my heart launched with happiness.

“Gaius quick you need to treat Merlin straight away or he is going to die!” I shouted at him.

I sat down on the bench in Gaius’s chamber with Gwen comforting me. My breathing couldn’t be any louder. Gaius said he is doing all he can. “Arthur!” Gaius shouted my name.

I rushed into Merlin’s room as soon as I heard my name. Gaius looked at me weirdly and I saw Merlin awake.

“Arthur....I want you to know that you’re my best friend and you mean everything to me. Please let Freya know I love her, always and that I am sorry now she has to leave my side again,” whispered Merlin.

“No you’re not going to die. Gaius tell him,” I cried.

“I am sorry sire but he has lost a lot of blood,” said Gaius.

“You can’t let him die!” I shouted.

“Arthur its ok I.....” Merlin stopped like he couldn’t breathe and I watched in horror as his eyes rolled back in his head and he spoke no more.

“I am sorry sire.....he is dead,” Gaius managed before he burst into tears and I did the same. After everything I and Merlin had been through to get back to Camelot and now he is dead.

Merlin’s dead! I can’t take this.
