Ice flowed through her veins as she remembered her dreams, but she pushed the thought away; they were probably just wondering around the forest. Trying to remain calm, she called out Sharpclaw.
"Yes, Leafstar,"
"Organize a patrol; My kits have disappeared." Sharpclaw's gaze darkened, but gave away nothing.
"Of course, Leafstar," Then he added,"Would you two like to check the big oak tree?"
Leafstar glanced at Billystorm and he gave a small nod.
"Yes, we will"
Sharpclaw padded off
"We better get going,"she added to Billystorm. They raced into the woods, leaving Sharpclaw to organize the rest of the patrols.
"Barrykit, Rockit, Henrykit," They both called. Sudden worry pierced Leafstar like a thorn. Where were they! Then, she heard something, but she couldn't make out what it was.
"Shhh,"she shushed Billystorm. Both of them pricked their ears. She could hear snippets of laughter.
"Do you hear that," Leafstar asked, making sure she wasn't hearing things
"It must be the kits!" he agreed
They both took off in the direction of the laughing. But soon, the happy voices turned into terrified wails. She ran faster. All of the sudden, the two cats broke into a clearing with one big tree in the middle. The kits were on a roting branch. Memory of her dream flashed through her. This was the same tree, the same branch, and the same clearing. She froze out of shock. In her absence, Billystorm raced up the tree."No!"she cried to Billystorm. But he ignored her."It's OK," He called to the kits while slowly walking on the branch. To her horror she heard a crack. The branch feel. Billystorm twisted around where the kits were on his belly.THUMP. They hit ground. Leafstar charged over. To her relief, her kits were alive, eyes wide with shock. But then she looked at Billystorm below them. He was injured. She raced over to him."Billystorm!"
"Leafstar. I love you more than anything in the world. Never forget that," he said weakly
"Don't talk like that!"
Billystorm smiled weakly, then fell limp. He was dead.
