In the Darkness 1: He's gone

The house of Gonzales' family was full of mourning because of the death of the head of the family and the leaving of the light of the family. After the day of the burial of Desiree's father, her mother leaved them to their Auntie Concha and went to Manila to work there. Their Auntie Concha's house was a bungalow type and made up of woods. Desiree entered the house with her brother and sisters, there were only few furniture in the sala. The house was not that big but it can occupy all of them.

"Desiree, you and your siblings will sleep here on the sala" she pointed the place and Desiree nodded.

"All of you must do the household chores. You're not here to be a prince or a princess. Is it clear?"

"Yes, Auntie." Desiree responded and her auntie gets inside the room.

From then on, Desiree with the help of Junior, her younger brother, always do the house chores. In the morning, she sweeps the floor, cleans the furniture and serves the breakfast in the table. Then she will take care of her two younger sisters, Maribel and Mary Ann, while doing the other house chores. Though it was very tiring, She tried to manage it for the sake of her brother and sisters.

Every month, their mother conveyed mother from her income as a maid in Manila. The time comes that they didn't receive any amount from their mother. They wondered why it happen, so they called their mother on the phone but she didn't answer it. Their Auntie Concha's suspicion was their mother married in Manila and she will never come back again. They didn't believe on everything that their Auntie said. They still trust their mother that she would not do that and hope that she will come back soon, so they escape from the mastery of their auntie.

Months had passed but they still can't contact their mother, their hope slowly fades away and the maltreatment of their Auntie had worsen. Desiree started to feel hatred for her mother's broken promises. She was obligated by her Auntie to work in their night club as a waitress. Since her mother had not conveyed money to them. It's been a hard time for her to work in the nightclub. Some of the costumer were molesting her and her Auntie just let it happen. She even forced her to dance seductively on the stage as the lights simultaneously sways in her hips. On that moment, all she could ever do was to cry and cursed her mother on her mind.
