Yeah...it's so easy to plan your life like it's just a series of goals to achieve. But what's the point in doing that?
Kin was thinking, trying to study for an exam. He was so distracted by the world around him, by his own life, that he couldn't concentrate properly. It pissed him off to have all those things on his mind, while he should focus on his duties.
His problem was Rosalind and all the mess she brought with herself. She came into his life like an hurricane and she devastated everything. He didn't want to know about Henry's and Jenny's secret, but she forced him to be part of the investigation.
He was sitting at his desk, looking at the dark sky of that cold afternoon, when a face suddenly covered the view. He bounced backwards, scared.
The figure raised one hand and tapped with the finger on the glass. He stared at the scene agitated, when the tap became stronger.
Once the tap turned into a knock, he couldn't help but stretch his arm towards the window. He opened the shutter and suddenly discovered that the figure was a girl.
Kin looked at her, amazed. It was the one who appeared in his room one night and gave him the keys. Maybe she wanted them back.
-"Why weren't you letting me in?" she asked.
-"I...I didn't recognize you." he stammered.
She was wearing a mini skirt and a black top, with a leather jacket on it. He was wondering how she wasn't freezing in that outfit.
-"I need to ask you another favour...I'm sorry to be so rude, but I don't know who else I could ask..." she explained.
-"But...do you trust me?" he asked.
It sounded so absurd that she turned to someone she barely knew.
The way she was dressed made him think that she worked in that kind of private club he visited the other day.
-"I don't...I just have no choice and I happened to be around your house. Besides, you seem a good person." she said, smiling.
Kin smiled back, but something wasn't clear. He suddenly remembered her saying something about Henry.
-"Well, thanks. Anyway, why did you tell me I shouldn't trust my brother?"
She shrugged and sat on his bed, crossing her legs. She was sexy but she also looked extremely sad. He was tempted to ask about her life and about why she was always so mysterious, when she spoke:
-"He's looking for me...he wants to send me again to the prison..."
It wasn't nothing like a clear explanation, but he somehow got the meaning from those words.
-"How do you know him? And why you're here if you don't want him to find you?!" Kin exclaimed.
-"I'm not afraid he sees me...since he doesn't know where I am staying."
-"Does he work for a private club or something?" he asked, revolted.
-"Oh no...I used to, but it wasn't a private club, something more complicated than that."
Kin was completely astonished. He wanted to know everything. She couldn't leave him without any explanation this time.
-"If you want me to help you, you must tell me everything about Henry and this business." he said, resolved.
-"I'm afraid I can't...or you won't be so nice to me anymore..."
She seemed quite embarrassed. She got up from his bed, walking towards the window.
-"You know what...? I was stupid. I can't expect a stranger will help me, so...give me the key back and I'll disappear from your life." she added.
Kin moved towards her and grabbed her arm, while she was trying to leave the room.
-"I didn't mean to be rude...I can help you, but I need to know something more, even if just a clue." he tried to persuade her again.
She moved backwards and pulled out her arm from his grasp.
-"You shouldn't interfere into this situation, you're nice and kind, but surely you'll get burned."
She wanted the key back, without hesitation, and Kin wasn't able to convince her to stay some time more. After some minutes, she was gone.
Kin decided to go pick Rosalind at her house. He wanted to be completely honest with her, to tell her about the girl, the key and what happened in the end. He felt depressed and stupid for how he behaved. He wasted an amazing opportunity when the girl asked him to help her and he ruined everything.
He parked the truck better this time and went towards the front door. Some minutes after he had knocked, a woman opened the door. She wasn't Rosalind, neither Jenny, surely their mother. She looked tired and her eyes were red, like she was just about to cry. She said that her daughters went out to buy some groceries. They probably were at his shop while he was driving around, like a fool. So he came back home, but she wasn't there.
He felt even more depressed, so he went into his room, saying he had to study, even if his brother was shouting at him to stay. He was a disaster. In everything he did.
He fell asleep and woke up abruptly, by the sound of a knock. Not that knocking again, he thought, plunging his head under the blanket.
All of a sudden, Henry entered the room and started to scold him. He was still sleepy and confused that he didn't notice Jenny and Rosalind at the door. They were watching the whole scene, stunned.
Kin stared at them, embarrassed. His brother was complaining about his laziness and dishonesty, saying that he was a liar and an opportunist.
-"Stop Henry! Why are you doing this?!" he asked, incredulous.
-"Because I'm tired of your behaviour! I thought you were studying, and you aren't!"
-"I was tired..."
-"I'm tired too! But am I sleeping?"
Kin snorted and got out of the blanket, while the two girls were watching him. Fortunately, he was dressed when he fell asleep.
-"Ok, show's off..." Kin said, bothered.
But the girls didn't seem to listen to him. They were so interested by their argument that no one could distract them.
-"You're coming down with me now, without complaining." ordered his brother.
How dared him to speak like that? And with that tone.
-"I'm not. I need to study."
-"You're such a liar!" he shouted.
-"I'm not the only one in the family then..."
Rosalind glanced at him, while Henry and Jenny looked confused. They weren't expecting that kind of answer from him. He didn't want to let it out, but it did, and now he needed to make up an excuse.
