Chapter 12-The Truth Of Sam Part 1

It's been such a long time since I last saw Rahul; I never knew that he was Kajol's brother! I'm so happy to see him. I have to tell Maya. She'll be so happy to see him!
'How you been, mate?' I ask.
'Great.' We break the hug and face Kajol. She looks confused and I know what she is thinking: why and what and how do I know Rahul. I take her hand and walk her to the lounge, she sits down and I let go of her hand.

I was 16 at the time, when Sam came to our school. Varun and I started being friends with him. Sam was a good person... Well that's what I thought. A few weeks after Rahul came up to me and Sam, he wanted to talk to me about something to give Maya for her 18th birthday.
'Just get her, umm a book, I don't know, Rahul I don't really know what she likes,' I said.
'Ahaa, dude you're her brother, you should know,' Rahul said.
'And your her best friend and you know her more than me.' Rahul just smiled and walked off. Sam looked at me with one raised eyebrow.
'What, my sister and I don't really talk all we do is fight.'
'Ahh right' said Sam. I decided to invite Sam over for dinner on that day; when we got to my house I introduced him my parents.
'And this is my big brother Rohit his 26, and my Sister Maya she's 17 almost 18.'
'Hello' Sam said. Throughout the night, everyone seemed to have fun. Sam went home.
'He seems nice,' everyone said. A few days later, Sam wanted to talk to me.
'Shahrukh, is Maya seeing anyone?' He asked.
'No why?'
'Well, I really like her and I want to ask her out?' Sam said. I didn't care if he dated Maya, he'd be her first boyfriend. At Maya's 18th birthday party and I take Sam with me, so he can ask Maya out.
'Maya, I need you,' I yelled at her. She walked over and I pushed Sam to her and walked away to Rahul.
'Hey what's Sam doing?' Rahul asked in a confused voice.
'Oh he's asking Maya out.'
'Oh, really?' He said with a tiny bit of sadness in his voice. Then I saw Sam and Maya hugging and then holding hands, it was nice. Few weeks after Mays's birthday, Sam and Maya couldn't stop hanging out. I felt bad for Rahul being the third wheel. One night, Maya didn't come home, she was over at Sam's house. I heard a knock on the door, and it was Rahul.
'Hey, is Maya here?' he asked.
'No, she's over at Sam's tonight.'
'Oh, well I'll go then,' he sighed with disappointment. He turned around and walked downstairs to the gate.
'Wait, Rahul,' I said walking down to him, 'come and sit down, kya hua?' He came and sat down next to me with a sigh.
'Well....' he said when the gate opened and we saw Rohit looking at us.
'Well, hello guys, what's happening here?' Rohit said flopping himself on the ground with us.
'About to hear what's wrong with Rahul' I said.
'Well, okay, come on spit it out' Rohit said with a smile on his face!
'Well, Maya and I never hang out anymore, she's always with Sam and I miss my best friend, and I feel strange every time I see her with Sam,' Rahul said playing with a leaf in his hand.
'You're jealous!' Rohit laughed.
'Wait, n...no' Rahul mumbled.
'Mmm okay,' Rohit said with a smirk on his face.
'Rahul? I know it's off topic but what were you going to give Maya on her birthday?' I asked remembering the conversation we had had.
'Oh...That...Forget it' he mumbled.
'Rahul...' Rohit and I said.
'Okay, fine, I was going to ask her out. I'm in love with her. I hate her seeing her with Sam. I miss her, I miss her laugher, her beautiful smile,' Rahul said crying.
'Rahul, I never knew you had feelings for her?' I said with disappointment.
'Dude, it's going to be fine, to be honest, I don't really like Sam!' Rohit said.
'Why?' I asked.
'Well: one he's dating our sister, if he breaks her heart I'm gonna kill him, second something about him is strange.'
'Like he's going to do something bad?' I inquired.
'Yeah.' The answer was short and snappy.
'He's good trust me okay? I know him.' Well I thought I knew him.
'He flirts with other girls and that smirk on his face with a dirty look,' Rahul said disgusted. I never noticed that and the more I thought about it the more I felt guilty for Sam asking her out. I realise that Rahul always had feeling for her; he always smiled whenever Maya was with him and when he talked about her. He was protective over Maya when boys tried to hit on her; Rahul was always there for Maya on her bad days and good days.
'Oi, Shahrukh, you there?' Rohit waved his hand and then hit my head.
'Well now I am.'
'Well, I think I should go, it was good to talk to you guys. Thank you,' Rahul said jumping up and waking backwards.
'Rahul, watch out for...' Rohit said. Rahul turned and bumped into Maya making them fall down. That was strange... Maya home early, it was 8:30pm and she was meant be home at 9:20pm.
'SHIT, sorry Maya,' Rahul said with a worried voice. He got up and helped Maya up. Maya kept her head down while wiping the dirt of her clothes.
'It's o... Okay,' she mumbled. Rahul puts his arms around her, and she hugged him.
'Ouch,' Maya whispered but I could still hear her. Rahul let go, looking into her eyes, his face went from a smile to worried face.
'Hey, kya hua?' He asked.
'Uhh... nothing just tired,' she replied.
'Mmm... Okay well I gotta go bye,' he waved and left. Maya looked like she had been crying and in pain. She walked upstairs and Rohit and I looked at each other with confusion on our faces and walked upstairs behind her into the house.
'Maya?' Rohit said.
'Haan?' She turned.
'Kya hai?' We asked.
'Nothing okay' she mumbled. Then I noticed a scratch on her face, not like a small scratch but a scratch like someone slapped her.
'What happened to your face?' I said with a little anger in my voice.
'Oh nothing I just tripped over when I ran into Rahul,' she lied. She turned and walked upstairs to her room. I knew she was lying to us. It was about 9:40ish Maya just got out of the shower, while I was outside banging on the door so I could go to the toilet. Finally the door opened and Maya was their wrapped in a towel, walking out.
'Jeez, takes you longer enough,' I said making her turn around.
'Don't you have a bathroom in your room?' She asked back.
'Yeah, but Rohit is using it.' I said noticing a purple blackish mark that looked like a bruise on her shoulder.
'What the hell is that a bruise?' I questioned with anger. She quickly covered it with her wet hair to hide it, but to late I already noticed it.
'Ahh... yeah, bumped into a wall!' She said with a nervous voice.
'Maya...' I said. She just ignored me and walked to her room. After I went to the bathroom, I couldn't stop thinking about Rahul and what he had said about Sam and the bruise on Maya's shoulder. I barged into Rohit's room, making him jump up from his desk. I closed the door so Maya, Mum and Dad won't hear what we were going to talk about!
'Kya hua? He asked.
'It's Maya, Rohit she had a scratch on her face that look like someone slapped her and when she got out of bathroom she had a bruise on her shoulder. I get a bad feeling that Sam's done this to her,' I said with worry and anger.
'What, if Sam did this his dead!' Rohit said with anger.
'Rohit, keep this between us okay, we haven't actually got anything to prove it, okay?' I said. Rohit groaned and walked over to his bed. I left him and went to bed. The next morning at school, I saw Varun and Sam, I noticeed Sam's left hand had fresh scar. I walked past them and gave Sam a death stare.
'Shahrukh?' I heard Varun calling my name, but ignored him and kept walking. I felt someone put their hand on my shoulder, I turned and saw Varun.
'Kya Hai?' I had to tell Varun. He's my best friend; Varun was surprised and he promised his word to keep it between us!
