It wasn't the first time that i had to throw myself into a new situation. It sometimes seemed that I'd been doing it all my life. So here i was—many thanks to my dad's umpteenth transfer—faced again with making a place for myself in a new school and now not just any old place, thank you very much!
Change isn't always comfortable. In fact, it can negatively turn things inside out—as it did for me.
Born an only child, my parents pampered me and made sure i had everything I wished for. My dad, who worked as an Architect, travelled a lot. Mom owned a saloon. We had a penthouse in Los Angeles –before dad started going on transfers—but had to sell it and live in rented houses all over the country.

"Goodbye, life," I sighed as I looked down from my bedroom window towards the street crowded with people.
Everyone one was there. My parents—what did you expect, I had no friends and I don't care. My dad just got promoted-again- for the umpteenth time which meant new faces and new people to show off to. yes!!
The role of face in the crowd was not for me. I definitely wanted people to know I was there! Of course, that wasn't exactly easy to pull off especially when you arrived late, weeks into the school year. But i had a secret weapon few could match. It always got me noticed—though to be honest; it hadn't exactly been a sure thing in the "making friends" department.
