"What was all that commotion about?" asked my mentor as I finally handed him the papers due hours ago.

"There was no commotion." I lied as I gracefully accepted the low quality office coffee he handed me.

Mihawk looked at me for a instant as he began to put his signature on the papers I gave him. His stark, gold eyes made me slouch ever so slightly. "No personal calls at work Roronoa."

With that I made my usual daily circle around my ward of the hospital. I was currently interning at St. Roger's hospital in the mental health or East wing. I majored in emergency pediatrics and minored in child psychology. People always asked why my major and minor are so different, but that's not true at all. The way I see it...

What's the point of healing the body when the mind is what's scarred?

I figured if I'm going to be on the earth, I might as well leave it better then the way I found it. But it isn't as easy as its seems. You can't save everyone. I can't save everyone. The worst part is it's always the people who deserve to live the most that have the least desire for it. A pure wide smile flashed through the my head as my thoughts began to drift. A screech from my walky-tally brought me back to reality.

"Mihawk, mihawk to ER61. ER61." stated a voice a little to controlled ,through the screeching speaker. That was also my call since I was studying under Dr. Dracule Mihawk. He was the best of the best in the whole country in ER medicine. He had a doctors degree in all ranges of ER measures. Which is extremely impressive at his age of 43. An order was barked at me as soon as I entered the room.

"Roroanoa start a IV, 37ml of benzene to lower that blood pressure, and nasal tubes to help with oxygen intake. No known allergies." sighed Mihawk as he began to get the medical and situational history from the spouse. I could already tell this was a odd case. The lady was pregnant and sweating gallons. "Is this your first pregnancy?" Mihawk asked as I slide the IV into her vein.

"Yes." The couple panted in unison.

"How far along are you?"

"28 weeks." With that answer we all knew if this baby had to be delivered now it probably wouldn't survive or it would have major disabilities, and imagine how hard it would be for new, young parents to raise that kind of child. Especially income wise. I

"Roroanoa finish this up while I go look at something." Mihawk stated as he speed out the room and into his office to research.

"What are your symptoms?" Besides sweating of course. I mentally groaned at my own sarcastic remark.

" I can't stop sweating, and it hurts all over." panted the wife. Despite the nasal tube she still seemed to struggle with breathing. It's not safe to inhale to much oxygen, but in this case a little more then normal would do more good then harm.

"When did the pain start?" I asked as I continued to write down her answers as her husband looked on the verge of tears. There is nothing unmanly about crying. If you can't cry when your wife and unborn baby are in the ER when can you? His eyes kept flickering from me back to his wife. I could see the were fresh out of college. Still fit. He was muscular with broad shoulders, and she was short and athletic. Football player and cheerleader.

"At our baby shower in my right leg." She weazed slightly. Her breathing getting better, but her blood pressure was still up. I could see her squeeze her husband's large hand in her small one. She seemed used to comforting him like after a big game lose. I don't know if what I'm thinking is true, but making up these stories helps me relate in order to be a better Doctor.

"Have you had any complications with pregnancy before."

"No." Barked the husband protectively as he finally toke a seat instead of standing.

"Relax honey, he's a doctor, yes we have. This is the first time we have made it this far into a term." With that Mihawk returned and beckoned me outside.

"I think it might be inflammation of the pancreas." Stated Mihawk ad he rubbed his temple. After the months I have had working beside him I know this gesture like the back of my hand. He didn't believe what came out of his mouth either. And I know something like that could make someone think he was a bad Doctor, but in the ER you had to make decisions that had the best possible outcome with the majority of the facts used. Ignoring the odd ones that don't line up. "I already have someone on the way to do a scrap of the baby."

"But with inflammation of the pancreas pain starts in the chest. She said her started in the right leg. Not to mention the only cure for inflammation of the pancreas during pregnancy is to deliver or you could lose the baby and the mother. At 28 weeks the baby won't survive long the lungs..."

"I know the lungs aren't developed yet."

"The benzene we gave her isn't bringing down the blood pressure either. The baby blood pressure is definitely dropping as we speak." As I spoke a nurse with the ulkratsound machine rolled past us. "Give me just 5 more minutes for questions." Instantly, Mihawk pulled outa timer and set it. Accuracy was basically his middle name. Hawkeye. "Can you please do a full body pat down while I finish up?" I asked. He was obviously letting me take charge in this case. A rare occasion that seemed to be happening more and more lately which I was grateful for. I didn't get a responds, but since we entered the room toe to toe I toke that as a yes.

"You said the pain started in the left leg correct?"

"Right leg." Weazed Vivi, I saw her name on the spreadsheet outside.

Directions aren't my strong suit. "Did you do anything different today, anything as all."

"No." She shook her head and looked at her husband as if to make sure. "Not that I can remember."

"Are you sure?"

"No...well actually, I wore these boots that I usually keep in the garage. They are really ugly, but it was cold out."

As soon as she said that Mihawk found a pale bump on her right leg. Awkwardly enough, in that exactly same area there was also no sweat. Everywhere else the bedsheets were soaked.

"This looks like a bite, but it's so small." Stated Mihawk as I took a picture of the area. "Okay Vivi, I'm going to squeeze it, so tell me if it hurts."

"...it doesn't hurt at all."

I could feel a smirk slide onto my face as the corner of my mentor's lips curled upward. "I will be right back." I smiled "Don't worry your in good hands."
