" Youth" - Daughter [ Love that effin song! 😍]

Not exactly the most cliche thing I've done. But it's far from being original.

I stare down at my paper. A bit lost in mind as I doodle in Chemistry. The teacher's lecture passing through one ear and spude through the other. Not really paying attention.

Lately I've been doodling. A lot.

This time it was a phrase from a song. I drew a scene of the song. A little startled that I'm capable of drawing such thing.

A boy stood there. A hopeless expression painted across his features. A throbbing heart in hand. His hand stained and a hole on his chest. A dark stain on his shirt from the spread in blood.

The lovers that went wrong.

That phrase always stuck in mind. The song Youth by Daughter. A lovely song.
A song that's made for times like this. Times to think and reflect.

And chemistry just happens to be the perfect time for that.

" Ms. Ernestine, can you explain the difference between protons and photons?" Mr. Williams clears his throat. A tap sound emitting from the board. But I clearly am distracted.

" Uhm. . .what?" I squeak out.

He lowers his gaze through his rimmed glasses. As if his vision clears up through it. Then a slight shade of red scatters on his plump cheeks.

" Ms. Stewart here wanted to know the difference between photons and protons. I clearly saw you writing down notes there, so there's no doubt you wouldn't know this" he pauses and narrows his eyes, "unless you were doing something else. . ." he drawls the sentence out. More than it should.

My mouth pops open. I begin to gape like a fish, my mouth opening and closing. Not knowing if to take his comment offensive or complimentary.

His tapping foot reaches my ears, " well, do you or do you not have an answer" his persistence makes my hand twitch out of habit. They clench slightly to keep me under control.

I blow through my teeth,
" I do have an answer Mr. Williams" I pause, " but that involves me writing on the board, hope you don't mind me doing so" with that, I pace down the isle. A little crammed due to the spacing between each desk. But I managed to squeeze my way through.

I direct my eyes towards Williams, a hand out to retrieve a marker. I awkwardly clear my throat for that indication.

He tosses the marker. Which I catch effortlessly, miraculosly too. Then scribble down both definitions on the board. Even draw a proton and photon next to one another.

I then turn around, meeting each student's vulture like eyes. They're the starving hawks while I'm the vulnerable prey. Ready to be eaten for dinner.

" A proton is a particle in the atom that gives off positive charges as it rests against a neutron, which is no charge, in the so called 'membrane' of the atom" then I point to the photon, " as for the photon, it's a particle representing a quantum of light or other electromagnetic radiation. A photon carries energy proportional to the radiation frequency but has zero rest mass."

I set the marker down his desk. Then walk down the isle once more. Settling in my seat and letting the breath I've been holding in, out.

The class settles in silence. As if absorbing the information given a few seconds ago. All resembling statues from their stillness. I direct my attention back to my notebook. Adding in more detail to the drawing.
A crowd of zombies in the background, emphasizing the deadly look in the boy's face.
