Chapter 2: The new student

I ran towards the school building, speeding through many cars who are stuck in traffic inside our school. It wasn't long before I reached the front entrance, which was inviting old and new students to another school year of probably doing nothing but boring shit. I prepare myself for the worse, and enter the school premises. As I walk through the hallways, memories of my past flashed back in my head. I remember running through one of these halls as I try to steal one of my classmates notebook while he was chasing me. It didn't end well, but that was still quite fun. I only realized now how immature I was back then. I just scoffed and passed by my former classroom, looking for my old chair. I was dissapointed to see that a fat kid is sitting on it, sneezing all over my beloved desk. I turn my head away in disgust and continue on to my search of my classroom. I passed by the cafeteria. Oh, how I missed the food in the cafeteria. Even though the food there was actually pretty bad, most of it is pretty bland, I still love the feeling of eating while you're surrounded by your friends. I wish it would never end. But stupid vacation, ruining my life. I went up the stairs, passing by some teachers whom I know but some of them aren't fammiliar to me. Looks like we'll have more teachers to have fun with. I finally got to my new class. I reached for the doorknob and hoped for the best.

As I expected, I can see that this school year's going to be a bust. I only know a third of the people in my class, and we have a new student, which is unusual this year. Great, just great. I'm just glad that I'm still with my friends, Jv and Lance, otherwise I have no one else to talk to. As a first day tradition, I took the seat at the back most corner of the room and just sat there, and put my head down like the sad little mess I am.

"Hey Mason! How's your summer?" Lance asked as he and Jv heads toward my seat.

"It was good, I guess. And by good, I mean extreamly boring." I replied.

"Why? Didn't you enjoy your summer vacation?"

"No, not really. I only had one interesting part during the summer, and that's when my childhood friend and I went out to what my mom calls a 'date'."

"Oooh, looks like Mason had a date during the summer." Jv said, nudging his arm to Lance.

"It's not a date! Sheesh, don't be like my mother." I said as I stare into the window beside me.

I never actually told anyone this, but I kinda fancy my childhood friend. Ah, typical teen romance shit, liking a childhood friend that's been with me since I was five years old. How typical of me, a nerdy kid who is just desperate to find a girlfriend. Sigh. As desperate as I may sound like, I'm sure all of us hates being alone and not feel loved. That's the most annoying and painful thing I've ever felt in my life, and I'm just sick of feeling it.

"Hey, bro. You ok? Where you staring at?" asked Jv while he shakes my shoulder.

"What? Oh nothing. Hahaha How about you? How'd you guys spend your summer?" I replied, looking confused.

"Oh, nothing much. Just went to this beach and just swam and shit. How about you, Lance?"

"Huh? Oh, the usual. We went abroad, Hong Kong. It was quite fun, actually......"

I just sighed and continued gazing out the window. "I hope this first day will prove to be interesting." I said to myself. I would have spent the rest of the morning gazing to the marvelous mountain aligned to our school if I didn't hear Lance say:

"Hey, did you hear? One of our new student's name is Allison."

"What did you say?" I said quickly.

"One of our new students. I saw it in the classlist. Her name's Allison." He replied, taking out a piece of paper from his bag.

"That's impossible." I quickly snatched the paper from his hand and looked for her name.

"Why? What's wrong?" asked Jv.

"Allison's my childhood friend. And she's going here, on the same school, with me?!?" I replied

"Oh my. Hahahahahaha!" Lance laughed.

"Shut up Lance. Hahaha It's not that funny. And in the same class, wow. That's gonna be awkward."

"It's ok bro." Jv said to me while wrapping his soulder over me. "Though I wouldn't mind you introducing me to her."

"Ha! You wish! Even if I did, I don't think you have a chance. Hahahaha!"

Lance and I laughed and made a joke about it. It wasn't long before our adviser had finally arrived and told the class to settle down.

"That's strange, there's still an empty seat beside me." I said to Lance and Jv, who were sitting in front of me.

"I wonder who's not yet here?" asked Jv. "You want me to move there?"

"No, no. Don't Jv. Stay here" said Lance, who was smiling. "I'm sure Mason will enjoy his company."

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

I looked around the room to see who's not yet here. Then I noticed that she wasn't here yet. Shit.

"Fuck Jv, get your ass in this chair right now!" I whispered.

"Hahaha Good luck, Mason. Enjoy the rest of your day." he replied.

"Fuck you, man." I said, while slapping the back of his head.

As soon as I sat back down, the door opened and I heard a familiar voice coming from the door.

"I'm sorry I was late, we were stuck in traffic." the voice said.

"Oh, it's ok. It's the first day anyway, so there aren't any lessons yet. Are you our new student?" the teacher asked.

"Yes. My family and I just moved here from Manila." she said as she enters the classroom.

"I see. Wow, that's pretty far. Well, I welcome you to our school. Please take a seat and we'll get started." the teacher says with a smile.

"Thank you." she replied.

She was about to move when the teacher asked her:

"Oh, I almost forgot. What's your name, dear?"

"Oh. My name is Allison. Allison Harper."
