-Logan's POV-
"Please just back off for once. It's my first day of school. Don't you think I'm under enough pressure already?" I slowly walked past my step-dad, hoping I could at least make it to the stairs.
"Not going to happen son." He gave me one of his evil smirks before lifing his hand up to punch me straight in the jaw.
I quickly ducked before he could hit me and began crawling up stairs. "Don't call me your son."
"I'll call you whatever I want to call you." Then he began chasing me up the stairs.
I then stood up, regaining my balance, sprinting for dear life up the rest of the stairs. I pushed my door open and slammed it behind me, along with locking it. I felt like I was about to have a heart attack. I realized I was breathing heavily, I could feel my heart racing. I sat against my door as my step-dad, Bill, banged on my door with his fists.
"OPEN UP YOUR DOOR YOU LITTLE SON OF A BI-"
I cut him off before he could finish. "LEAVE ME ALONE BILL." I shouted back at him.
"You'll pay for this later." He warned me before walking away.
Right after he left, I heard my phone ring. "Hello?" I picked it up after the second ring.
"Hey man. It's Derek."
"Oh. Hey."
"You coming over?"
"I don't think I can..." There was no way I was going to get passed Bill without being pounded.
"Come on Logan." He begged. "Why not?"
"Lots of homework." I lied
"It was only the first day. Besides, since when do you ever do your homework?"
"Fine. I'll be there in fifteen."
"Cool. See you soon."
I hung up the phone, looking up at my window. I unlocked it, lifting it up. I looked down. There I saw Noah still sitting outside the house. I couldn't blame the poor kid for not going inside. I jumped out the window, landing a rough fall. I knew it was a stupid idea, but I didn't think my room was that high.
I stood back up, feeling slightly unbalanced. I felt really tired, but I knew if I didn't show up Derek would never let me hear the end of it. I looked down at my hands, which were all scratched up from slamming into the driveway. I put my hands in the pockets of my jacket, then began walking towards Derek's house, which was only two blocks away.
After walking for about ten minutes I finally ended up at Derek's house. I haven't been to his house in forever. I had a feeling it would be awkward seeing his dad and his new step-mom. I've met his dad millions of times, however his new mom, not once. I hope she was nice, because I don't do well with making good impressions.
I knocked on the door a few times, waiting for a response.
The door opened after a couple seconds. There I saw Derek's dad, who I haven't seen in forever. "Oh hey Logan! Haven't seen you in a while."
I gave him a small smile and nodded. "Long time no see. So uh, Derek asked for me to come over."
"DEREK!" He yelled for his son. "Come in Logan."
I took a step inside the house, shutting the door behind me. I stood there awkwardly waiting for Derek.
"Are you one of Selena's new friends?" A lady with short dark brown hair came into the room. I assumed she was Derek's new step-mom.
