Forbidden Kin

Prologue

"Do you, Rain, promise to uphold the medicine code and become Lake Pack's second healer?" Cinder asked as she sat on top of the Willow Ledge, a jumble of boulders in the center of camp, able to hold the whole pack for the Half Moon. Rain nodded, her eyes gleaming with pride as she sat up straight. "Then you must travel with Wind to the Spirit Pack hunting grounds at the moon stone tonight." Cinder said and touched her nose to Rain's forehead. Cinder jumped down and padded into her den, leaving Rain to go see Wind to travel the long distance to the moon stone. "Ready to go?" She asked and Rain nodded. Together, they padded out of camp and made the journey to the moon stone.

They reached the moon stone and Wind instructed Rain what to do. She pressed her nose to the stone and Rain did the same, feeling the cool sensation from the stone. She opened her eyes and a starry field opened up before her. 'This must be Spirit Pack.' Rain thought to herself. She heard rustling from behind and turned to see her mother, Fern, standing behind her with a smile. Rain turned and ran towards her. She Nuzzled into her mother's soft fur and licked her cheek before separating. "Rain, my sweet darling. You've come a long way to become the next healer. I know you'll do great one day. Spirit Pack has sent me to grant you a full healer of Willow Pack. You've studied long and hard to understand everything that wind has taught you and you learned well. I now grant you the life of a full healer in Willow Pack. Congratulations Darling!" Fern exclaimed happily as her tail wagged with joy.

Rain smiled and Nuzzled her mother one last time. "But beware, trouble strikes once an odd one joins. With it, brings destruction of the rain's life." Her mother recited a prophecy. Rain gasped and looked at her, bewildered. "What does it mean?" She asked as she took a step backwards. "In time, young one. Fern said and the scene disappeared. Rain fluttered her eyes open and looked around, soon finding Wind looking at her with trouble showing in her eyes. "Beware, trouble strikes once am odd one joins. With it, brings destruction of the rain's life." Wind recited and Rain shuddered. 'I wonder what it means.' She thought to herself.
