"Life is too God damn short," Brice mumbled as we were making our way into Wrigley Field.
"Tell me about it," I chuckled as I adjusted my Cubs cap. It was November second. The Cubs were in the World Series Game Seven. Dad and Brice were here with me. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
Brice pointed to our seats. "Come on, let's sit here."
"I'm nervous," Dad admitted. "You boys should be too. This could make or break this team. It's been too damn long since we won."
"I could've been at the CMA Awards tonight," I laughed. "But nothing could make me miss this amazing opportunity."
Dad and Brice both laughed with me as the game started. We could win. 2016 could be our year. I just hope it is.

It all came down to this. Three outs and we could win this.
"Come on, Cubs," I said as I gritted my teeth. It would be an absolute upset if we lost this close to having it all.
Dad and Brice were also intent on the game. We all wanted one thing, and that was to finally when after waiting a lifetime. I've waited thirty years for this, others longer. The team has waited over a hundred years.
I didn't want us to lose, but I knew there was still a chance. The players can't let this get to their heads. We're so close, but yet so far away.
Before I knew it, the Indians were up at bat. They hit a nice one, making me cringe. It all seemed to happen in slow motion as Kris Bryant threw the ball to first and...
"THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!" I screamed as I jumped in the air. It was an out! We had won the World Series and I couldn't have been any more proud.
Everyone was freaking out behind me, cheering. This was it! We had done what would be talked about for many more years. Tonight, the 108 year curse had been broken.
My phone buzzed, one of my country singing buddies were calling. I answered. "Hey, dude!"
"I just saw the last of the game at the hotel," he informed me. It was Luke Bryan, we don't talk enough. "I saw that your team won."
"Yeah, it was crazy!" I responded. "How we're the awards?"
"Could've been better, but I got to sit next to my hot wife all night, so it could've been worse too. I guarantee most of the fans were watching the game."
I nodded in agreement, even though I knew he couldn't see me. "Yeah, it was all over Twitter. People are pissed about the awards."
"That's life though," Luke sighed.
"Hey, are the boys?" I questioned. That was one thing I always wanted, kids.
"They're hanging in there. Trying to stay up, I'm sure. Maybe just a little upset Daddy didn't win anything. I haven't called Mama, so I wouldn't know."
I smiled at that, Luke was a suckered for kids, especially his own. I am too. I love kids and the energy they always seem to have. "Alright, I better go."
"Talk to you later, Brett."
I was still hyped from the game and couldn't sit still. I couldn't wait to get to Chicago and celebrate with the city. We won.
It was all so surreal. Soon, I'll be back to playing music, but for now I could celebrate.
I can't believe we won. It's like I'm dreaming. I'm on cloud nine and nothing can take me down from this high. It's insane. It truly is completely insane.
Everything is so pure in the world. I'm loving every minute of this. Bless Rizzo and Bryant. Bless the Cubs. I'm so happy we won.
This feeling that I'm feeling us like the same feeling I got when I was sign to Atlantic Records.
How is this even real life?! "Brett, you okay?"
I looked at my father and smiled. "This is so surreal, Dad."
"I know the feeling," Dad agreed.
Brice nodded. "I can't wait to see Mom, she'll be so happy."
"Edgar too, that is if he can understand what everyone is screaming about."
Both Dad and Brice chuckled at that. "How are you feeling?" Dad question.
"I feel like I got my record label all over again. That's how high I am right now. I feel so bless to call the Cubs my team. This is insane."
"It sure is," Brice agreed.

"Edgar!" I called out as I stepped into my apartment. I had just got back from celebrating the win in Chicago. I still can't believe they won.
Edgar came strolling into the living area, smiling that beautiful dog smile. "We're going to do some bedhead jams tonight, want to join me?"
Edgar howled, which I took as a yes from him. We sang a bit of Take Me Out To The Ball Game to celebrate that very deserving win that I still can't get over.
"Can you believe it, Edgar? The Cubs actually won the World Series! Are you excited?"
He barked joyfully as he wagged his tail. I chuckled and ruffled his ears. I wish there was someone out there who loved baseball as much as I do. Especially the Cubs.
"Alright, boy, I'm going to get to bed. You can join if you want, I think we both deserve some shut-eye after such a long day.
I quickly changed from my Cubs jersey to a grey shirt and black sweatpants and climbed into bed. I know that Edgar was right next to me, but I still felt lonely and I couldn't quite figure out why.
I so badly wanted this feeling to go away, but it just wouldn't. It kept me awake, I was desperate for sleep. I shot Luke a text about it, hoping he would be able to help. I knew he was sleeping though. He's had a long day with the awards and all.
After a while, I finally found it in myself to fall asleep, but the feeling still never left my me and all I wanted was for it to go away.

A/N: Yes, this chapter is short, bit it is only the first chapter. I really excited about having a Brett Eldredge fanfiction in my collection of Luke Bryan ones. This is still a Luke fan account, but you should see Brett start to pop up more often as I'm a huge fan of his also. Let me know what you thought of this chapter and how you're liking it! ~Kelsea
