Rylee hopped into my truck without saying a word. I don't know if she was excited for our road trip or not. It would be a three day trip. One to get to Chicago, another to spend the day there, and the third to head back to Nashville.
She got comfortable, flicking her beautiful blonde hair behind her shoulder. I could see her blue eyes darting from view to view out the passenger window. I wonder if she knew that she had captured my heart. I wasn't nesscessarily in love, but I do think I'm falling for this girl.
Luke's wife was right about how some things can surprise you, but then again, she had the perfect love story. I wasn't Luke and Rylee wasn't Caroline. I knew it would be way more complicated than that.
"Who exactly are you?" Rylee broke the silence. "I mean, you're no ordinary person or same ole country singer."
"That's true," I agreed. "But you're no ordinary girl either. Everyone is different, it's a matter of digging to find out who someone really is."
Rylee looked at me. "You're famous. People around the world want to know who you really are."
"More like people around the country, I ain't that famous," I commented.
Rylee rolled her eyes. "That's what every single country singer at that party said, including Luke Bryan."
"Yeah, well we don't like to get a big head."
Rylee rolled her eyes. "I want to get to know you, Brett."
"Same here."
It was silent after that. This girl was something like I've never seen before. I don't know what it was about her that made me want to get closer. I just knew she was the one, or at least I think she is.
Rylee continued to gaze out the window, enjoying the view. I stared ahead. My eyes glued to the road. My mind has been going crazy and my heart has been pounding. This trip was intoxicating.
"Why are you doing this?" Rylee spoke up.
"For fun. I want to be your friend," I answered vaguely, my eyes still on the road.
"There's more to it," Rylee claimed.
I didn't say another wood. I only had one focus, to get to Chicago safely. I didn't want to think about anything else. Not even Rylee, because I knew I was falling deeply in love.
The radio started playing Mean To Me. I changed the station, I'm not listening to love songs, not even my own. Not with Rylee.
I knew she was glaring at me, trying to interpret why I had changed the station.
"Great fucking holy cheetos, why on Earth would you skip that beautiful song?! And don't say you don't like it, because it's your song!" Rylee exclaimed.
I ignored her question and looked at her before turning back to the road. "Wow, 'great fucking holy cheetos?' Really?"
She crossed her arms over her chest. "Answer my question, don't judge my comment."
"I'm Brett Eldredge, get use to it," I smiled slyly.
"Well, I'm Rylee Davis, get use to it," she replied back, sticking her tongue out.
I chuckled. I was really starting to fall for this girl. She was so random, so different than any girl I've dated. I never met a girl like her. Not even my friends' wives could match her. She was unique and I loved that about her.
"I like you," I smirked.
"Answer my questioned," she pushed me.
"Damn, girl! You're determined as fuck!"
"Answer my God damn question, Brett!" Rylee said in a serious tone while pointing her finger at me.
"I just don't want to listen to love songs. I want upbeat songs to play," I answered. It wasn't a full lie.
"Then why are we listening to Roller Coaster?" Rylee questioned, giving me a skeptical look.
"I was too busy talking to you to hear the song come through the speakers," I shrugged.
She rolled her eyes at me, but accepted my answer. Damn, this girl can be feisty thing.
I finally pulled into a McDonald's parking lot and parked my truck. She seemed skeptical about it, I most likely gathered that she hated fastfood. That was until she jumped for joy, yelling at me to get her a Chicken McNugget Happy Meal. That just made me want to be with her more. Rylee and I are one in the same.
I ordered our food, getting myself the same thing. Rylee pulled out a stuffed emoji and cracked up. "These McDonald's toys can't be real."
"Even the kids are all lit with the emojis," I chuckled.
We finished eating our food and got back into truck. Rylee had been silent all lunch and I've been worrying about it. She was always so talkative and I was curious as to why that suddenly changed.
I kept my mind off of it though, trying to ignore her sudden quietness. I started randomly humming Shadow. Banging my hands on the wheel as we rode down the open highway.
I looked to my right to see that Rylee was now fast asleep. I smiled at the sight. She was beautiful and looked so peaceful as she slept. I looked back onto the road to see the best thing ever on this trip.
That green and white street sign that overhang on the road. "Welcome to Chicago." We finally made it and I couldn't be any happier. I would just have to drive for a little bit longer and find a nice hotel to stay at.
About an hour later, I pulled into a parking garage and parked on the first floor, underneath the hotel. I turn off the ignition and took off my seatbelt. I carefully leaned over the centre console and shook Rylee awake.
"Hey, we made it. We've got to check into the hotel and then get some sleep. Tomorrow, I'll show you Wrigley Field. You'll love it."
Rylee nodded slowly. We got out of the truck and grabbed our essentials out of the backseat. We then locked everything else in the vehicle before making our way to the lobby. Once we were checked-in, we made it to our room and got settled down.
She took the left bed and I took the right one. I looked at my Twitter while she was fast asleep. After about an hour, I decided to go to sleep myself too.
I couldn't wait to show Rylee all of Chicago tomorrow. She was going to love it here. And maybe I'll just get her a Cubs shirt while I'm at it.
