Winter was when he could be truly called a 'King'. His reign was the colour white, the snow clad lands and everything was his to rule. The Snow King had lived through eons and had watched as everything had unfolded. He knew how petty humans were, their weaknesses, their flaws and all. The splinters of the trolls magical mirror had gotten into people's heart and soul and latched itself there. Their eyes saw only the bad in the world.
And for the King, nothing was more amusing that the fact that for humans, he was the Snow Queen. Each winter came and he filled it with snow, and this time too it was no different.
He was walking through a lonely forest, one that was a little distant from a little town. For him, watching humans was a constant source of entertainment. Snowflakes were swirling against him and slowly settling on the ground.
"Are you the Snow Queen?" a voice asked from behind him. The Snow King stopped. Without looking back to the person whom the voice belonged to, he questioned in reply. "Do I look like a woman to you, boy?" He slowly turned to see who it was, and the person was no one but a human boy. "I'm eighteen!" The voice had retorted before saying, "Are you the King then? Because legends always say it is the 'Snow Queen'." The boy asked again. The Snow King looked at the boy, and replied "The legends you hear are wrong then." The Snow King looked at the boy carefully, but the boy's golden eyes took all his attention. Amber, the kind of beautiful shade that seemed to hypnotise anyone who stared into it. "My name is Noel. Do you have a name, King?" The boy asked as the Snow King turned to leave. Snowflakes surrounded him again as he replied, "I don't have one." "Can I call you Rei?" Noel asked. His black hair was a little disheveled, his face a little pale. The Snow King did not reply rather just turned to see Noel for the last time. "Will I see you again? I'll wait here. Everyday, alright?" Noel said and smiled brightly.
The King smirked at Noel, turned as a small snow blizzard surrounded him.
And with that, the little snow storm subsided, leaving Noel spellbound.***
It was Christmas morning when the nuns of the church found a child crying on the stairs outside. They found a baby in a small basket, with no note, no sign of any recognition. So the little child was named Noel, a miracle of December.
At present, Noel is a young boy of only eighteen but at the age he is at, he knows everything there is to know about himself. Though raised and lived in a church his entire life he knows that his love is wrong, his feelings forbidden. People's opinions did not matter and yet, living seemed so difficult knowing that no boy, except him, ever dreamt of his own knight in the shining armor.
Noel was taking his usual stroll in the woods one day, when he say a cluster of snow in a single place. What followed was seemed pure magic. A person, clad in white with a grey fur coat on slowly appeared. His hair was white and as he walked, snowflakes kept falling. Noel's breath hitched and he kept staring at the figure. He followed close to the figure and finally mustered up all his courage to speak. And when the person turned to look at him, Noel felt as though time had completely stopped. The Snow King was there, in front him. Legends told people to stay away from magical beings, said they only brought harm to a person. He had mustered up all his courage and managed to call out to the figure, thinking it was the Snow Queen. When the figure turned towards him, Noel forgot fear, because at that moment, the Snow King's azure hued eyes were ethereal. Something Noel had only heard in old tales.
'Legends you hear are wrong then.'
This thought ran across Noel's mind everyday when he went to the woods with the hopes of meeting the Snow King. There were certain things you simply couldn't resist and for Noel, the Snow King was one such thing. Slowly, days went by, and as they did, Noel grew more and more desperate. He wanted to see his 'Rei' again. He had so many questions, so many things he had to know.
A week after his first meeting, Noel ran to the woods after his work was over. There was no sign of him for an entire week, but he knew that there was nothing to worry. For as long as Noel's small world was white and snowy, he knew that the Snow King was still around. Finally on reaching the clearing in the woods which was now covered with snow, Noel fell on the ground, panting.
"Well, I thought you'd be here early, Noel." The unmistakable voice said as Noel got up quickly. "Rei!" Noel said looking at the man standing in front of him. "A week, and yet here you are." Rei said looking at Noel. Noel smiled brightly. "So you've been here." He said and looked at the white haired male. "Tell me Noel, what makes you come here?" Rei asked walking closer to Noel.
"I can make you forget everything. I can drive you insane with just a click of my fingers. Kill you. You know all this and yet," Rei trailed off, touching Noel's hair. They were so close, so close that Noel could feel the frost's coldness from Rei. "Fools rush in where angels fear to tread, isn't it Noel?" Noel looked at him then smiled playfully. "Then call me a fool, for I am one for you." Rei looked at the Noel in disbelief. "I want too know everything there is to know about you." He said honestly, truth dripping in his every word. Rei looked at him surprised him. "Such sweet words." He muttered to himself and kept on staying close to Noel.
"Alright then, come here everyday, and each day you can ask me a question. I will answer but only one question." Rei said and looked at him. Noel's eyes brightened instantly as he nodded in reply. "And what is the meaning of 'Rei' that you call me?" He asked Noel, looking at him. "In my native language, it means King." The Snow King smirked a little then walked back snowflakes swirling him. "Humans say, 'Curiosity killed the cat', you know. " Rei said looking straight at Noel.
Noel's amber orbs twinkled with mischief as he replied, "But satisfaction always brought it back."
